Question:

HUGE LEAP OF FAITH: Should I just go ahead and put in my two weeks notice?

I'm in the interview process with this organization that I would love to work for and I honestly don't know if it's going to work out or not. It's very competitive and I might not hear back for a few weeks. However, if I do get the position it would mean I need to move across the country by Sept 29th. I already have a great roommate and possible apartment lined up - just no job for sure.

The job I have now is fine but not something I want to stay in forever, and I also am not in love with this area. A move would be very welcomed and the job would be a dream come true. However, I have almost no savings so can't live for long without some income.

Should I just bite the bullet and put in my two weeks notice at my current job & move with the hopes that I get this dream job?

  1. If it were me, I'd call the company I interviewed with and ask if they can let you know when they expect to make a decision.  Or, you could also start looking for other possible jobs in the new area so that if you do decide to just move out there, you already have a few leads.  Good luck!

  2. That is only a question you can answer.  Depending on the vibes you feel from the hiring people on the job in question.  If you really think you are going to get it then maybe that leap of faith is exactly what you need.  But, know that a leap of faith may not be in your best interest with nothing financial to back you.  You should have made some better decisions in the beginning if you knew that you would want to move.  Saving money would have been good.  Better plan on having a different job lined up if this one doesn't pull through for you.  That way you can survive in the new city you have moved to.  Good luck!

  3. In short...no.  I look at it as a matter of being practical.  You said that you don't have the savings to move and live very long without the job so you are taking a big risk.  You have a possible apartment lined-up which means you also may not have an apartment.  Worst case, you put in your 2 weeks, you move, the job falls through, you don't have a place to live and you're stranded in a new city with no job.

I don't think it's reasonable for a company to expect you to move across the country in less than a month let alone in just a couple of weeks.  Obviously you've been in contact with the company so they should know that you're going to have to move.  If they can't be more flexible on the start date if you get the position then maybe you should reconsider how great an organization this is.

That's all the bad stuff but here's the good.  You still have options.  You can go ahead and start to make some of the arrangements like at least looking into a new apartment, roommate, moving, etc. without actually putting in your two weeks.  Once the company offers you a position then you can discuss that you will have to put in a notice and make arrangements to move.  Chances are they will make some allowances.  Also, even if this job falls through you can still look into other opportunities in the new area but at least you can save some money and do it in a more reasonable time frame.  Good luck.

  4. As much as you may want this job .... you can get a answer of NO. And that would be drastic. Just be patient and hope it is a yes... then you can go ahead and go.

  5. YES!!! take chances I did, Im 13 and have 2 business jobs and work for a website 8D

I work as a manga artist and make some pretty good money but i took a chance it was 25% to get the jobs and stuff so go and try it!!!

  6. No, don't worry about the two weeks notice.  If you have found your dream job then just leave.  The 2 weeks is just a courtesy.

  7. If you are lucky enough to have a job, unless you are independently wealthy, I would keep the job until you are actually offered the new one. Having faith that you will get it, isn't enough in this day and age. If this is your dream job, they will help you move to get you there.

    Stay put.

  8. You should move! This is a good opportunity for a change. Good luck!

  9. No, stay where you are until you get the job.  Once you put in your notice your boss is under no obligation to let you stay.  So wait until things are certain and if you have to give less notice then so be it.  In this instance you need to watch out for yourself.

  10. no; doing that is the quickest way to ensure you won't get it!

  11. Wait and make sure you have the job!  xox

  12. no. what if you don't get the job and you already gave your notice to your current employer. now you will be unemployed. be patient. patience is a virtue.

  13. BE HONEST WITH YOUR PRESENT JOB ,DONT PUT IN THE TWO WEEK NOTICE ,WHEN YOU HEAR FROM THE OTHER JOB THEN INFORM YOUR CURRENT BOSS ON THE STATUS OF THE JOB.

THEY MAY EVEN THROW YOU A GOING AWAY PARTY LOL

  14. What are you going to do if you dont get the job. If you want to take the risk then do it. If not play it safe.  GOOD LUCK!! :)

  15. hey you never know what is around the corner really if you feel its the right thing to do then i say go for it.because you just never know.do what you think is best for you and if you have nothing to lose then !!!

    good luck

  16. I would pray on it first....and faith is the right attitude.....so pray on it and if you still feel strongly about quitting then just work up until the day you get the other job and just leave don't need to put in a 2 weeks notice.

  17. i would. i hate my job. you can always find another job if the dream job dont work out. it seems like you would be happier if you moved. just go for it.

  18. I wouldn't  - no! I thought I had the perfect job and they ran me around for over a month and wouldn't put what was discussed in writing so I decided NOT to take it. You don't want to look too eager... Once they let you know you have it they will wait. It's that simple. Don't burn your bridges, good job or not. You can always just give your current employer a week. They could fire you without notice so don't think about them. A week is better then nothing - GL!

  19. NEVER quit a job, or even put a two weeks notice in, before you get another job. It will eventually backfire on you. Once you put your two weeks notice in, your employer is trying to find someone to fill your spot. If you don't get the job and decide to keep your current job, your employer may have already filled your spot. They can't take it away from the new hire, so you'd be screwed.

  20. NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!  You ALWAYS have another job lined up before you put in to quit the last one.

  21. well if you really want it. then go for it but just incase that things dont work out you should have a plan ... look i use to work in medical billing but i would only get paid like $10 an hour... & i have 2 kids i also pay rent && the money i'm making is not enough. so i stopped working && i'm going to college now & everything is going well... so go for it if you really want it... life is all about oppurtunities!

  22. I would wait until you know something. Unless your final decision is to just move no matter what- and get something when you get across the country. You'll be fine either way- as long as you're willing to do whatever it takes to make it when you get there... and that means taking a job you don't love to be able to afford to live. The choice is up to you! Good luck!!

  23. well it depends on what the area is and if you will have a fairly easy time getting a job there if this one doesn't work out. Lets say it's a major city than I think it's a fine idea.
