okay.....today i finished ALL the stuff necissary at MEPS to enter the navy....got my contract and everything

but the problem is the job that i wanted in the first place was not available to me when my contract was being made...so now im stuck with the job of "Gunnery Mate"

i got a 70 on the ASVAB and passed all medical and EVERYTHING...but they still didnt offer the media and fils job that i wanted....thats the main reason i wanted to enter the navy

my recruiter was telling me that its possible for him to VOID my conrtact if i ever changed my mind about the navy. So im looking into the ARMY instead....they have a great Public affairs and Broadcasting field that is basiclly what i wanted in the first place. But my problem is i want to knoe if i can change branches from navy to army even though my contract wont be able to be void until march 17th, 2009

i mean...its possible for me to enter the army delayed entry program even though im technically still in the navy delayed entry program right??

i really need this for my personal values...but i just hate that the navy isnt offering me the job that i want even though i qualify for it...and i really want to just get the job i wanted in the first place even if that means switching branches.

please help...im confused..

  1. tell devil cat that blowing a cow and saying moo doesn't  make you a cow

should have never signed something you don't want, army might get you what you want but your going into army meps with 1 strike on you already from backing out of dep once already, ya kinda screwed the pooch on that one, tell the recruiter if you cant do what you want then you want to separate from the dep, if he cant do nothin for you then talk to the army, but you have less weight going in becouse you backed once.   goodluck

  2. You can void out of your delayed entry program until you report to basic training.  Don't be fooled.  YOU CAN CHANGE YOUR MIND! If the stuff you wanted to do is not available then don't go.  You will be unhappy unless you have a backup choice, like choice 1A or  something like that.

  3. definitally look into the army, you have a much better chance at a bigger bonus. the college money, gi bill is guaranteed. the vacation and pay are the same. tell the army recruiter the story about the navy contract. h**l be able to guide you and get you staright. if you can get the navy contract voided and the contract you want out of the army then you couldnt be better off. stay focused.

  4. That was your first mistake.... Joining the Navy.

  5. Sounds like more government rhetoric. They just want your warm body. I would get out of it if you can and find another avenue to achieve my goal. The military treats you so bad, why would you trust them. Why would you put your life in their hands?

  6. Let me tell you something. When they tell you the MOS of choice is not open, you tell them, "Thank you very much, but I am sorry, that is the only way I would join." Within a week or two you will get a phone call telling you that you have been shot in the butt full of luck because your slot just had an opening.

I did this three times during my military career and it worked like a charm every single time. Keep in mind though, that was Army and they have a lot more positions to fill than the Navy.

  7. You aren't obligated to the Navy till you swear in the day you leave for basic. Go talk to the Army recruiter, be completely honest tell him whats up and see what's open. One of our good friends is in broadcast and they seem to really be needing people, so perhaps you would have a decent chance of getting that job in the Army.
