Question:

HUGE laptop problem (virus?)?

by  |  earlier

Okay, lemme list the problems on my laptop:

1. Everthing is somehow zoomed in. (REALLY ZOOMED IN)

2. Screen isn't aligned. (black space on top and left)

3. Virus(es)

4. CAN'T ACCESS ANYTHING. This means I can't download some anti-virus software to fix it.

Laptop is currently in safe mode and can't get out.

Please help.

Maybe fixing the zoom in problem and screen alignment first may help ALOT.

Thanks.

  1. can you read the screen at all?

can you use it and navagate to folders etc?

    can you get online

try doing a hard shut down of your computer.  Turn it off by the power button, boot into normal mode.  if it goes to safe mode again, do another hard boot, and press F8 to bring up boot menu options.

it sounds more like a mal adjustment of your screen or video properties than an infection.

How do you know you have viruses?  What message do you get,  What viruses does it say your have.  Which program is telling you that you have an infection?

Try to get out of safemode first.  next can you disable system restore, after getting out of safe mode.

Do you have access to a 3 1/2 inch floppy drive on your lap top? Could you download a virus scan, save it to floppy and then run it from safe mode on  your laptop?  The infection will need to be identified first, which is why I am asking the questions.

  2. it must be your lucky day i was just cruising by and came across your question...

    right here we go.

    go here do scan.

    http://www.bitdefender.com/scan8/ie.html

then go here get a good decent AV program,

this one is better than some you have to buy.

    http://www.avast.com/eng/avast_4_home.ht...

then go here and get a decent firewall.

this one is much more advanced than anything microsoft has to offer and it is free as well.

doing this will put you straight...

    good luck...cmdr...UK.

PS : when doing the online scan turn off your anti virus so it can be scanned as well...

and get rid of it forever when you get the good one...

  3. I would go buy an antivirus program. You could pick one up at pretty much any store that sells computer stuff. Office max, walmart (maybe), etc... I would try norton anti-virus 2008. it works good for me and i download everything and go to millions of sites.

  4. zoom? do you see the whole screen? am thinking it is the resolution for safemode. do you have internet access for safe mode? what i would do is remove any software that may have done this (control panel - add remove software), if that doesn't fix it i'd do a system restore in this case till before you first had the issue.

  5. hey,

first right click on your desktop and go to properties and then click the settings tab and you screen resolution...just move the slider over towards more and see if that fixes your problem with the screen.....safe mode automatically sets the screen resolution size but you dont have to worry about that because u wont be in safe mode all the time. as for the safe mode just restart PC and right after u do that keep pressing F8 and a menu will pop up go to safe mode with networking and u will have internet in safe mode so you can atleast get the antivirus setup. and to get out of safe mode repeat the step with hitting f8 and select start windows normally

  6. Reboot from back-up.  That sounds like your only plausible way around this now.

  7. Let me first say that your laptop is basically dead. Let me next say that you'll probably lose everything you had on it and will have to reformat and reinstall the operating system. Good luck...
