im looking through the prize list for an 'A' rated show and I saw the class "Traditional Hunter Pairs Class". can some one give me an example and maybee a video so I can see what it is like with the transition from horse 1 to horse 2. thanks!

here is the description:

TRADITIONAL HUNTER PAIRS CLASS –

Two riders in coordinating attire, as well as horses of

similar size, color, and attire ie. (i.e. saddle pads etc).

Objective of ride is to see versatility of horse within

tradition of hunt rides. First horse to jump first four

obstacles with 2nd horse evenly paced behind. At 5th

obstacle horses are to change places with one another,

with emphasis on a smooth transition between horse

positions. 2nd horse to now lead in jumping next 4

obstacles, with 1st horse following at an even pace.

The last and final obstacle to be jumped

simultaneously by both horses.

now heres my ?........when you change from horse 1 to horse 2 does the first rider circle and get behd the other???

  1. Hunter pairs is SUCH a fun class!! You and a friend can coordinate yourself colour-wise and go around a course together. I haven't heard where you alternate between leading halfway around the course, but generally a "faster" horse will lead (or the horse least likely to refuse/run-out at a fence in some cases lol!) around the course and then steady up for the last jump and you try and jump the last jump together at the exact same time. It is honestly such a FUN class!!!

My guess is when you change "leaders" you just steady up/collect up the first leader and let the first follower extend the canter a bit to take the lead and then continue the rest of the course like that (until the last fence of course!)
