Ha-Neul Kim makes a solid start in South Korea
Ha-Neul Kim of South Korea was more than happy after she made a solid start at the LPGA Hana Bank Championship 2012, as she shot a 66 in the opening round.
Although several players have yet to complete their first round, the result of the first day is becoming a little clearer, with lesser-known players having posted good scores.
The LPGA (Ladies Professional Golf Association) tournament is being played at Ocean Course, Incheon, South Korea, with the presence of defending champion Na Yeon Choi and current world number
one Yani Tseng.
Kim faltered on the first hole as she could not keep a grip on her putter on the greens and ended up carding a bogey. However, she was quick to regain her composure as she shot a birdie on
the second hole to offset the bogey impact.
The South Korean star tactfully avoided a bogey on the difficult par-3 third as she made a seemingly difficult par-putt. Putting pressure on her rivals, she carded birdies on the 5th,
7th and 9th hole.
On the back nine, her game looked as stunning as it was on the front nine because she did not lose chances and fully capitalised on favourable weather conditions. The LPGA star posted birdies
on the 10th, 15th and the difficult 17th hole.
Commentators said that players found it relatively easier to make good scores than the last year at the same course.
Swedish Karin Sjodin was one of the star performers as she made a superb start by shooting a massive 64 on Friday. She drained 8 birdies and steered clear of bogeys throughout the day.
Sjodin came into prominence after a stellar performance in the 2012 Kraft Nabisco Championship where she tied for fourth position.
Sharing her thoughts in one of her interviews to the LPGA Tour, the Swedish star said that she has to admit that she became famous after what she did at the Kraft Nabisco Championship.
“Some people, the rental car people. After Kraft they recognized me, which was kind of nice. Other players coming up and congratulating me and saying they were rooting for me and things
like that. I enjoy it, it's been great,” she said.
