Question:

Haas, Hewitt, Safin. The biggest threats to Top Ranked Players?

I consider Tommy Haas, Marat Safin and Lleyton Hewitt (all ranked over the Top 35) to be the most threatening players to the top ranks. These guys are not has-beens and have proven to be the guys to upset the Top 10 ranked players of today numerous times. Whenever I see Top 5 competitors face the likes of Safin and Hewitt, I see the Top Ranked player work their butts off for the win. Who do you think is the biggest threat to the Top 10 in terms of s******g them over in an important tournament? (Those 3 are my opinion).

  1. Well Haas lost today so he is no longer a threat. I don't really consider Hewitt a threat especially because Nadal gave him a thrashing at the Olympics. Safin will always be a threat no matter what, just like the Williams sister. I think Safin will give the top players a little bit of trouble but I think his injuries will hinder him.

  2. Tommy Haas seems to be the most dangerous of the 3 players that you mentioned.

Hewitt's hip injury has me wondering if he can make a comeback and be competitive in men's tennis.  That's the kind of thing that can ruin a career.  Especially with a grinder like Hewitt whose game relies on his movement.

Safin's injury problems have cost him his confidence.  He still has the physical ability to be among the best, but doesn't have the mental toughness to really become a champion.  There's no way Vincent Spadea should've taken him to 5 sets the other day.  His semifinal apperance at Wimbledon gave us a glimmer of hope that he'd comeback, but he hasn't done anything since that tournament.  It looks like it's back to the slumping Safin, unfortunately, cause he's one of my favorite players.

  3. Well, I agree Haas and Safin always have a chance to upset a top 10 player.  But outside of them their is also younger players such as   Ernests Gulbis who has a chance to upset Roddick.  Also, Sam Querrey is a pretty good threat as well as he easily beat the 22nd ranked berdych in straight sets.  These are players the top 10 should be careful of and I am sure they take notice.

  4. I think I get what you're saying.  These guys are former No. 1 and No. 2 Players, but they seem to be done as Top 10 contenders now.  But those 3 are definitely the Upsetters in the ATP.  For example, with such a low ranking from these players, Safin can go up against someone like Federer in the 2nd Round and stuff and s***w their chances of advancing.  These 3 have the potential to create upsets at random tournaments.  You are right I'd put these 3 as the hidden upsetters overall.  The Top 10 would not want to face these guys in early rounds.  I agree 100% .. I'd also give consideration to Ljubicic and Berdych as upsetters even though they are still in good ranking position.

  5. Haas and Safin maybe, Lleyton is no longer a factor.

  6. hewitt

  7. i think it had to be Hass........safin and hawitt's time came and now it's gone

  8. Definitely not Haas!

  9. tommy haas and safin yes but i don't think hewitt is a big threat for the top guys, he hasn't won against any of them in years!, i really like hewitt but he's not been doing well lately
