Haas, Tsonga, Melzer, Aisam-Bopanna to continue play on Day 5 – Preview: Erste Bank Open 2011
On Friday, October 28, 2011, day five of the 2011 Erste Bank Open will progress in Vienna with Tommy Haas (Germany) opening play for the day as he takes on Juan Martin del Potro (Argentina). Haas, who has never won any Grand Slam,
would want to make it through to the semi finals in the hope to make a place into the finals and win an ATP event. The 15th ranked Del Porto, winner of the 2009 US Open, just might win the match for his 1-0 match record against the 18th ranked Haas. The only
time they both played each other was at the 2008 Legg Mason Tennis Classic, which the Argentine won 6-2, 6-1. Del Porto went on to win the event.
The other match in line on the fifth day of the event would feature Jo-Wilfred Tsonga (France) and Xavier Malisse (Belgium). The French player, who has been doing great in recent years, will certainly create a tough time for the
50th ranked Belgian. Tsonga, currently ranked at the 9th place in the world, although has not won any Grand Slam, but he could qualify for the semi finals. Malisse has been playing professional tennis since 1998 as compared to Tsonga, who became a professional
player in 2004, but the age factor would come in handy for the French. Tsonga, 26-years old, has shown fast use of his legs and powerful shots as compared to the 31-year old Belgian, who has been below par in his performance in recent years.
Speaking of performance, the Indo-Pak Express has been on a great winning run in recent events. The team of Aisam-ul-Haq Qureshi (Pakistan) and Rohan Bopanna (India) are having a great year in terms of the matches they are winning
and the chemistry they are showing against their opponents. This year, the team from the sub-continent has already won the 2011 Gerry Weber Open and the 2011 Stockholm Open.
With their great form and immaculate teamwork, the Indo-Pak Express has the ability to defeat their Polish opponents, Mariusz Fyrstenberg and Marcin Matkowski, in the quarterfinals of the men’s doubles event at the 2011 Erste Bank
Open. The Polish pair has won thirty ATP career finals, but Aisam-Bopanna would be motivated with their recent winning run and could possibly secure a place in the semi finals.
The other quarterfinal of the men’s doubles division to be held on Friday would feature Oliver Marach (Austria) and David Marrero Santana (Spain) taking on the American team of Bob Bryan and Mike Bryan. The Austrian-Spaniard pair
would be hopeful to qualify for the semi finals but the big question would be to get past the legendary Bryan brothers, who have always brought their best games in the crucial moments of the tournament. The Bryan brothers, who have won nineteen Grand Slam
doubles titles together, can eliminate Marach-Marrero from the tournament. However, it would be an upset in the men’s doubles category if the number one ranked Bryans loose to Marach-Marrero.
