Recently my computer was hacked by a trojan i believe, because someone ganked one of my credit card numbers and made a few purchases. I'm not quite sure how it got through because I use adaware and AVG anti virus every week. When the trojans activated I got rid of them. I'm kinda parenoid. Is there any foolproof way I can make sure there are completely gone so I can feel safe typing things on my computer again? Or does anyone know a good forums for this?

P.S Anyone who brings me his head gets 1k

  1. the only way to be totally safe is to stay off the internet. Other than that, I recommend a real firewall. Not the crappy windows one but one list Norton, Mcaffe .

  2. Go to a soft ware store and buy a new virus scanner, dont get ones off the internet, ive heard of people creating virus scans that do the oppisite scan for good things instead of the bad. The highest ranking virus scan out there is Norton, the lowest is Macaffe and another one i forget,.

    any other questions email me,

  3. Format your hard drive, re-install OS. I then use Comodo anti-malware products such as Comodo AV which has built in application monitoring which alerts you when applications that you have not defined are attempting to run. I also use encryption software which encrypts everything on my hard drive so keystrokes will also be 'crypted. Now in line with other posters comments, most hackers when confronted with a strong line of defense will move on to the next "door". Thats why I use multiple layers of security. Therefore my answer would be to use multiple layers, Firewall --> antt-malware --> encryption. Dont make it easy for them. Another thing I dont do is use my credit card or bank card to make purchase online. When I see something I want online I buy me a pre-paid debit card and use that for online purchases.

  4. Don't download things from shady sources. Use your brain.

  5. yes, there are a way, you could learn a bit more about security in internet

to find him - impossible, no, really possible, but it will require a lot of money and resources

  6. If you think you can accept it, then I would suggest switching to Ubuntu or Mandriva Linux.

no, linux isnt some really nerdy thing that implies a lot of code.

  7. Why you got the trojan on your machine might be due to this,

    1. If you donot have the full version/original of antivirus (AVG) and antispyware  (Adware) and you use the free one, You are not safe, in the sense that, Your windows firewall is not protected and trojans can be sent  to your machine by the use of your machine ip address without your protection programs seeing it, Some sites drop trojans on your machine and you might not realise it until you have a full version of AVG 8.0 or any full version of protection program. If you don't update your antivirus and antispyware regularly, you will surely get a trojan that was either created after your last upate of antivirus which is stronger than the update file. Updating is recommended. What you download can cause that too, if you download any file save it in the temp folder. Microsoft built a security there to prevent virus from spreading, scan downloaded file after download finishes, using mozilla firefox 3.0 will minimize it too, it has a virus scanner if you are about to download a file through the internet.

    2. To get rid of them (trojan), Do this

    a. Open your network connections, open it's properties, unmark this, file and printer sharing for microsoft networks, click ok. This will prevent the hacker from seeing your ip address and retrieving information from your computer.

    b. Get comodo firewall, it is a very good firewall it is free, it gives you information if someone is trying to send a trojan to your machine or connect to your machine illegaly, what you only do is, allow connection or deny connection. here is the link to comodo firewall pro or personal. download it, type comodo in the search bar to your right at the top corner. There are many great tools there.

Many people and I, recommend it as the best kind of protection you will ever need. Switch on all applications on. if you can afford for a good full version antivirus, it is cuul.

c.The full proof protection is, get this program

    spybot search & destroy

    search and download it here

    www.download.com,

This program will clean all traces of trojan on your machine in the registry and backup operators, Update it first before you scan machine.

make sure you update all protection programs.

Note this, before you scan your machine, Switch off your internet connection or remove your network cable before you scan with antivirus and spyware remover, this is very important.

Coz they may hide in your network if machine is shared with someone.

If you wish to be completely free from viruses, trojans, worms e.t.c. Use Linux Ubuntu it is a different kind of window, trojan or viruses cannot enter it, once you restart your machine you are free from virus.

This is recommended to keep your machine booming back to track,

    perform disk clean up,

click start, run, type chkdsk, to fix local disk errors.

After performing full scan of machine, heal or delete any suspected file detected,Switch on your connection or insert network cable or wireless device, make sure all applications of comodo firewall is ON and keep your antivirus up to date.

Scan your pendrive or removable device before opening.

You will surely be free from a trojan, worm e.t.c if you do this.

When trojans are sending information from your machine to somewhere else, comodo firewall will inform you, what you should do is allow it or deny it.

    Virus will be completely gone.

Have been in this for long and nothing comes my way.

  8. The only way to be absolutely sure that it is gone is to format your drive and reinstall the OS.  That's a little drastic for most cases though.

  9. Running antivirus and adware/spyware every week isn't enough. You need to reinstall them every time to ensure they are not hacked.

After re-install, immediately do an update. As soon as the update is complete, disconnect the internet and do a full computer scan, twice. The first one is to heal, if not move to virus vault, any suspicious file found. The second time, which should be OK, is to make sure anything healed are healed, if it is still there, move to virus vault without hesitation.

You might need registry fixer to ensure there are nothing left of the virus to allow it to be download again after you connected to Internet.

And do disk cleanup and windows update if possible.

  10. he used a key logger, did you download anything before it happened? and try McAfee, my computer has never been infected.

  11. non of the anti-virus in this world is safe. its better not to use any card for your safety. cards are made for the lazy person.
