Hacking Scientific Atlanta 8300 HD to add ext. sata drive?

I have an ebook 500GB esata/USA/fireW/ external and I'm trying to add it to my stupid *** box. I found out that it runs SARA software - but right now I'm using the firewire connection and its not recognizing it. ANY TIPS HOW TO EITHER HACK IT TO ALLOW IT TO USE FIREWIRE OR SHOULD I WAIT 'TIL MY ESATA CABLE COMES?
