Had 12 week scan today and baby wasn't in right position at first...?

so the sonographer had to have 4 attempts, meaning between each scan I had to walk around, drink etc etc. They eventually got there but im now concerned about how long they had to spend with the ultrasound probe over my stomach and the amount of pushing and prodding. The scanning time must have totalled around 45 mins altogether and she was really pushing and prodding and i mean A LOT to try to get the baby to change position. I know the 12 week scan is important but did anyone else have this problem? and could all this have done baby harm?

thanks

  1. First of all, ultrasound is safe and the techs know what they are doing, so baby should not be at all bothered by any of that.  Now, just for the record, a 12 week scan is not completely necessary and for a lot of doctors, not at all routine.  A lot of offices only offer one scan around the midway point in pregnancy....unless you are high risk or there is some cause for concern of course.

Either way, baby is fine and there's nothing to worry about where the scan is concerned.  Best of luck.

  2. U/S are safe for baby. Plus, the U/S tech knew what they were doing. They wouldn't do anything to hurt the baby. Don't worry about, just be glad that you got to see the baby!

  3. trust me they do that haha even with my last ultrasound but dont worry it wont harm the baby :D

  4. I had the same thing happen to me last week.  The only thing that happen was I so sore from being pushed on so much, but I was told my baby is fine.

  5. Ultrasounds are totally safe! There is ZERO evidance linking multiple ultrasounds to any problems with a baby!

  6. First off no it will not harm your baby i thought they were gonna slap push my little one out for me when i had my sonograms done and i had them done everyday for 4 days because my sons diaphram wasn't moving at all and he was losing fluid so i dont think you have anything to worry about but your belly will prob be sore i know mine was, just a part of pregnancy i guess!! i would rather have them done and know nothing was wrong than not so i hope everything goes well with you!!

  7. totally normal to worry. we are mommies and thats what mommies do! but to put your worries at ease ultrasounds are very normal and have no risk. the fetal doppler is even more risky than the ultrasound. lol and there is no risk to that. im a high risk pregnancy and in two weeks will have my 7th ultrasound. my last one at 20 weeks lasted about 45 min and we really wanted to know the s*x we had to help her move a lil and the ultrasound tech couldnt get good measuremets at first so she started pushin to get her to move. no worries baby is sooooo well protected in the womb. plus in my first trimester i had 4 ultrasounds done and it never phased my doctors. congratulations on your lovely bundle of joy and be thankful that you got to see for yourself that baby is alive and well :-)

  8. I wouldn't worry. The techs have a list of things that they have to look at before they can let you go home so if your baby wasn't in the right position, it would make sense that they wanted to prod a little before sending you home. None the less, your doctor will call you ASAP if something is wrong.

Your baby is very protected in your tummy and u/s are very safe since they only use sound waves and not radiographic studies!

    Congrats!

  9. ths is quite normal, my 12 week scan i had to bounce up and down on the bed to make him move. they are so cusioned at this stage, he/she will be fine. x

  10. no it wont harm the baby first of all. and second, 45 minutes is nothing compared to how long i had my first scan with my second pregnancy. i was in there for close to 2 hours. they take however long they need to, to get the pictures that they need. The need to work with the baby, since the baby cant work with them

  11. No you're okay my mom is an ultrasound tech and she tells me with some people you really have to press down hard with the transducer to get an accurate picture of the baby.  It won't do and harm and this is very normal.
