  1. Hmmm.... I agree with galactus, that top ten all time would be somewhat of a stretch, especially if you're referring to pound-for-pound. With victories over those guys, I would say that he'd be a top ten all time welterweight and he would definitely have been ranked three or better right now pound-for-pound out of all the fighters who fought over the last fifteen years.

  2. I'd say he DID beat Trinidad, and split with Mosely, I also had him winnig 115-113 over Mayweather. At worst that fight should have been a draw. The swing judge is the only one of the 3 that gave Flloyd the 12th rd otherwise it would have been 115-113 OD, 115-113FM, 114-114 Tie = Draw

In all fairness I also had him losing to Pernell Whitaker.

That asside I think you could make a top 10 all time arguement. As he is one of the highest drawing fighters in history (if not #1). He consistently fights top level fighters, and has done as much for the sport as anyone in the past 2 decades (with respect to keeping/gaining interest). If your top 10 is by weight division he's a no brainer. He is a Hall of Famer in my book either way.

  3. Top 10 All-Time is a bit of a stretch but he would definitely be considered the best in the last 20 years or so.  That would give him a victory over Trinidad (He should have gotten anyway), two wins over Mosley, a win over Hopkins and Mayweather.  That would certainly put him near the top.

He was never really close to Roy in terms of ability but his drawing power always made him appear better than he really was.  Its all in styles.  Mosley beat Oscar twice.  Forrest beat Mosley twice.  Mayorga beat Forrest twice.  And Oscar beat Mayorga.

I have to give Oscar a lot of credit for taking the fights he did.  People Criticize him  for not fighting Winky Wright but I dont think that's totally fair considering that Oscar was never really a middleweight and people forget he started at 130.  Also, there were many others who avoided Wright.

Still, if you're talking Top 10 All-Time that's a bit much even with those credentials.  You're putting him up against guys who have more TITLE fights than Oscar has Fights.  He's definitely in the top 20 with this but I dont think he makes the Top 10.

  4. Yeah, definitely.  Especially the one with Tito because both men were in their prime then.  With Hopkins and Floyd Jr., De la Hoya was obviously past his prime so those losses were kinda acceptable.

  5. Oscar DID beat Trinidad! If Oscar had stayed in some of the lower weight classes, he would dominate. As it is, he is one of the all-time draws like Dempsey, Ali and Leonard.

  6. i give oscar props for fighting the best fighters  in his era but i feel that he lost more of his BIG  fights  more than he won and yes i agree that he beat trinidad but if would'nt have  ran like a greyhound the last 2 rounds there would be no controversy  i think that if he had won the fights he lost of course he'd be a top 10 all time great cuz he would undefeated.,duh.!

  7. u crazy boy, mayweather should have won unanimous and if oscar would have beaten him he still wouldn't have made it to the top 10 maybe to the top 15 because RJJ is around number 13 and Roy reigned as p4p for a decade something oscar could have never done

  8. Yeah, but you could say that about a lot of fighters.  Oscar, other than against Tito, basically fought as well as he could at the given point of each fight.  Sure, you could say he could have done this or that, but, again, you can say that about most world class guys that lose to another world class guy.

And, in truth, I'm not sure how he would have beat Hopkins after it became clear that he wasn't going to be able to keep him off him with power shots, Mosely, I think, would basically beat Oscar everytime, he was faster, and had enough power to keep Oscar honest.  I think De la Hoya should have beaten Floyd, it he had been busier and kept up the jab..I mean even Floyd fans only scored it 8-4, I think if Oscar had been more aggressive he could have taken the fight.

Still, I think as time goes Oscar standing will continue to rise; JCC, Quartey, Hernandez, Tito (maybe), Mayorga, Vargas, Gatti,  - I used to dislike Oscar because I thought his abilities were overrated, but over the years I really have grown to like him a lot, he is doing everything within his power to keep boxing relevant, and always makes big fights a lot of fans want to see.
