Ok, this is probably all T.M.I., but I am desperate. I got through childbirth great, no episiotomy or hemorrhoids, but now I am having horrible constipation and dreading going to the bathroom. I am trying to drink a lot of water because I am nursing, but I guess it still isn't enough to help my digestion. It is very painful and this morning it caused me to bleed. I am not sure if I just have bad fissures or actual hemorrhoids. Please, any relief is welcome. However, I am nursing and it has to be safe for my little boy.

  1. Yes, my first couple of bowel movements after the baby were easy! i thought I was in the clear. Then a couple weeks later, OMG - horrible constipation where I dreaded having to poo. I took a stool softener which the doc ok'ed and it helped a lot :) I am nursing, too

  2. Did they give you stool softeners? If not, I would call and ask them for some. They may help.

  3. Try the stool softeners, and lots of water, and try to relax. Your body should work it out hopefully sooner then later.

  4. Nothing too much information when youve had a baby lol. Dont worry it's just your horemones there still all over the place. Try drinking orange juice, but im not sure if this will upset your baby. So how about apples and lots of veggies that will help you digest.

I had problems going to the loo too. because of my stiches i bled and i was in a lot of pain going to the toilet and i made my self constipated by putting it off.

You need to speak to the doctor he might percsribe you something thats safe when breastfeeding. I had a laxative but i wasnt breastfeeding so im not sure if there safe the best thing you can do is speak to the doc.

Try to go for a walk because sometimes little exercise can help.

  5. For immediate relief, you might try an e***a.  (Water in a bottle, bought at the store, they come in... one use bottles. FLEET makes them, and there are other brands too.)

When I had my second child, I didn't have a lot of money, and I didn't eat right, so I didn't get enough fiber in my diet.  I had to take psyllium husk fiber. (Metamusil or a generic brand works just as good)  It works like any other fiber in the body and makes it easier to defecate if you are constipated, it also works well when you have a diarrhea to help solidify things a bit....

There is also a lot of good advise from other people I read before I answered, such as fruits and vegetables...and keep doing what you are doing, drinking lots of water.

The extra fiber, from whatever source, and the enemas, fruits and veggies, and water... these are all safe for your son.

  6. i ate the "all bran" cereal for a couple weeks after having my baby. lots of fiber will make your stools easier to pass. you may need to call your dr. if you are bleeding and think you have fissures.

ps. that brand of cereal works fast!

  7. there are many stool softeners available over the counter that are safe to take while nursing. Ask your dr or pharmacy which one would help you the best.

  8. drink plenty of water and eat fiber rich foods.

  9. well it is very common for a woman to be a lil constipated after giving birth...you body may still not be all the way adjusted yet. I had the same problem and my doctor told me that from being in labor and pushing for almost 2 hrs. straight, that my body jsut wasnt used to me pushing and forcing to use the bathroom..ya know...also it flet like it was tearing when i did go and there was some blood...the doctor to me to add some more fiber to my diet till it all passed and to also chew my food better, that maybe i wasnt digesting my food properly.

  10. try some correctal for women..it worked in about 12 hours for me

  11. Aw honey! I feel for you cuz I went thru the same exact thing! I hadn't gone in a week (after giving birth) and when I did-it took me 20 minutes-very painful-and I had the same bleeding problem..It happened to me a couple of times more before it got better. As far as the consti[ation-eat more fiber and drink more water. I know you said you've tried the water and it isn't helping so try some Metamucil or another fiber supplement. I asked my OB about this (because I'm breastfeeding) and they said it was safe..As far as the fissure's/hemerroids go- did the hospital give you a squirt bottle for when you go to the bathroom? If so (if not-get one) fill it with warm water and squirt it around the sore area after going. And then-after wiping-apply some witch hazel to the area to relieve the irritation..I did this and it helped a ton! It will be over soon. I promise!

  12. It Kind of sounds like IBS. But I would try eating a lot of fiber like mini wheat cereal, and stuff.  I eat activia everyday, and have a Kraft liveactive blueberry almond cereal bar.  They are very good for digestion and fiber filled.  Also try drinking warm to hot water, sometimes that will help.

If you start to have any issues w/ pain while urination or stinging/burning pains before during and after going or during and after s*x, I would look into seeing if you have IC (Interstitial Cystitis).  I say that because that is what happened to me after giving birth the second time.  It started w/ my bowels, and progressed.  A theory is that most people w/ IC also have IBS.  Good Luck

  13. You need to be taking fiber still. Your body is still readjusting to not being pregnant. Keep drinking plenty of water and take fiber( I recommend Benefiber because it is tasteless and can be put in just about anything). Fiber is safe for breastfeeding and is just about the only thing that will fix your problem. Also lots of multigrain products like bread and even those new yogurts (Activia) can help you to. Good luck hun!

  14. after I had my son they had me buy stool softeners. You can get them over the counter.

  15. When this happened to me I took a gentle laxative to soften things up. It worked fine. Then I was ok.

  16. When I have that problem I eat raisin bran or raisin bran crunch and all is well. I hope you find something that works for you.

  17. TONS of fiber-I had the exact same problem often wanting to cry just thinking about it. DO NOT strain which will only make it worse. Take your time. It will get better with time! I promise!!

  18. Drink lots of water and intake foods high in fiber.  I'm just now getting to where it doesn't hurt to go to the bathroom and my little man is almost 3 months!!  At my check up with the Dr. she said I was still healing and I could take stool softners (they were safe for breastfeeding.)  But tell your Dr at your check up or call them because you might have hemorrhoids and need them to be looked at.  :)  Sorry.

  19. try eating lots of fruits and veggies and keep your water intake up to 6-8 glasses a day that should do the trick...at the very least it will soften the poo
