Had a bad virus, does Windows System restore get rid of it completely?

I did the system restore, and my computer returned to normal, but I'm worried about logging into my bank account, etc online. Should I be worried? I didn't do anything else besides run a spysweeper and set my machine back a few days, which appears to have totally got rid of the virus.

  1. Files are kept, it's best to turn off system restore and then do a scan. Or two. Or 12 if you think you had a virus. Spysweeper isn't enough, good program but not enough. I have no idea what security you may already have but there are a few places to go to get help. FREE help. Lots of FREE help. Download Avast, link below, update, scan. Update anyhing first, then run a few scans. Turn off system restore, reboot into safe mode with networking and run a scan. And do a few FREE online virus scans also. When you're done and have made sure your computer is clean, turn on system restore and make a restore point right away to use for future issues. Best advise for secure online banking? Change your password often, once a month if you can. NEVER open strange e-mails and NEVER click on links INSIDE of any e-mail, no matter how safe it looks, always type in a web address and go there that way.

  2. If you catch the virus prior to a Restore Point being made then in some cases it will solve the problem, but also in some cases the infection is already in the Restore Point.

As you have restored and it appears to be clean, run the following:

Malwarebytes Anti-Malware Removes Antivirus 2008/2009/XPAntivirus and many more:

Download, install, update and select Quick Scan.

Remove all infections that it finds after scan.

    Spybot S&D:

Download, install, update and Immunize, then click 'Check for problems' then when complete select all and then 'Fix Checked'

For safer banking use KeyScrambler which encrypts everything that you type in including credit card numbers etc.

Works on most browsers, email clients and IM programs, and it's free.

  3. This does NOT remove the malware. Its' files can still be sitting on the machine, and can be activated again. Much better is to use a good anyti-spyware and anti-virus. Keep it updated and run a full scan from safe mode.

  4. Spysweeper or Adware 2008 are two nice programs.. They sweeps all spyware and malicious programs out of your computer...

  5. Get a spyware remover at http://ovbmmg.noadware.hop.clickbank.net...

You have to protect your personal info cuz these programs are able to collect your personal info and send it to a server for God know what.
