but the workers left granite dust everywhere. I read in articles saying that granite isn't healthy since it could cause lung cancer from radon, so how do I know if my countertop is safe, let alone the dust that the workers left behind?

  1. Yes, recent reports have shown that granite countertops can release radon gases. Your best bet is to contact a company that does radon testing to check how "active" your new countertop is. As for the dust, that is not looking to good. Sorry. Here is a link that will give you more information about the granite dust.

    Good luck.

  2. The workers should have cleaned up some; however, yes your countertop is safe.  If you have concerns about the dust have a professional cleaning service come in and thoroughly clean the area.  My husband is a builder and he says there is nothing to worry about.  Enjoy your countertop, I'm sure it is beautiful!

  3. Test it for Radon?

  4. have it tested for radon.....

  5. Hi, There is no problem with just vacuuming up the dust. It is in such small quantities that it will not harm you. As for the radon, do not be concerned about this overblown, hyped, not news. It is sensationalized beyond belief. Save your money. Worry about being hit by a meteor.
