Could this be back labor. i get contractions too but they seem to be nowhere near as painful as my back. This is my third question for today lol its my first baby so i have no idea what to expect. If this is back labor how to i time the contractions? My doctor said she thinks ill have him by this weekend for sure because my bag of waters is bulging. Could the membrane sweep have worked and this is what im feeling? Im at work so im going to walk around the building a couple times to see if it gets anything going

  1. you are probably having back labor which is very very painful...and if that is what it is..then yes you are in labor. see babies are supposed to come out with their face facing the floor and then as you continue to push them out..they turn a bit...but when people are in back labor..it means that their baby is in the posterior occiput position...meaning face up with the back of their skulls pushing against your spine. as you have a contraction and the contraction squeezes the baby...it is pushing the baby's head up against your spine causing a lot of pain. since you did have your membranes swept..there is a very good chance that this is labor.

if you would like to relieve some of your back pain..rock back and fourth on your hands and knees.this drops the baby away from the spine..also if you have your significant other..mother..friend who ever...push on your lower back while you are in this position..it will help relieve the pressure as well..it is called counter pressure actually.

i wish you the best of luck and if this isn't labor (sounds like it is tho)...just remember it is coming soon!!

almost over! and then you get to see that baby you have been waiting for for 9 months!!...or possibly longer

just time the contractions you feel...back labor doesn't mean you are having contractions in your back..like stated above it is the baby in a very awkward position. also..people who i have seen in back labor..complain of back pain throughout the entire labor and delivery process..i have been told that the only thing that actually lets up are the contractions..but the back pain is always there because the baby just keeps descending into a lower position in your pelvis...which leave the head less room to be free...causing it to continually push against your spine...but don't worry..they have epidurals and spinals for that!!

  2. You would time the real contractions and not the back pain. The back pain can be horrible though and often do go along with contractions.

Yes, this could be the real thing! The back pain was the first thing that I experienced with both of my kids.

  3. I think its time you took some time off work and chilled especially if your doctor has said you are expecting this weekend. Its probably normal, but if your really worried call your doctor and ask.

Hope things go really well for you, your so lucky! x

  4. Yeah, it sounds as if you're in very early labour and you're experiencing it in your back.  This is frequently caused by the baby's position: 'face to pubes' as some midwives call it.  It can mean that labour takes a bit longer, and the pain is different from usual, but I'd reckon that baby will be here sooner rather than later!
