Had a minor accident (my fault)... how much should I expect my insurance go up as a new driver?

I bought a brand new car and had an accident 3 hours after... I was parked and trying to leave, and while backing up I turn too early and my front bumper hit the rear side end of the other vehicle (damage of the other vehicle was 12x5 scrape and no dent)... I was asked for 1k for repairs so I decided to have our insurance work with it.

I have insurance under Geico so I was wondering how much will my insurance go up as a new driver?

  1. My suggestion is trying to get as much as information as you could before making any decision, here is a good resourece.http://carinsurance.expertsupport.info/a...

  2. It's impossible to know until your renewal rate becomes available.  I would guess 5-10% increase overall.  It's best to take Defensive Driving to get the accident wiped off of your report.

  3. If you check Geicos website (look under either the claims center or information center tab) they say that they will not increase your rate if you have had no accidents in the previous 5 years.

You can call and ask generally how much does the insurance go up. I was in an accident so I called and reported it but haven't made the claim yet. But they told me that it shouldn't go up more than $100.
