Hi my husband was cleaning the bathroom sink last night with clorox clean up. My cat decided to jump up on the counter while he was cleaning it and it got all over my cats paws my boyfriend out of reaction grabbed him forgetting he had a little bleach on his hands and got some on his fur. My boyfriend freaked out and called the emergency vet and they told him to give him a bath and he should be ok as long as he doesn't l**k himself which my boyfriend didn't give him time to.{please don't not tell me im a bad owner because i didn't take him to the the emergency vet because my cat did not or still is not acting sick} So is there anything else i can use to clean my house that is not a threat to my cats just incase my cat does it again?

  1. I'm just amazed that your husband and your boyfriend get along well enough to care for the cat together.  Good for you. :0

  2. I would bathe the cat using baby shampoo.  Also lock them up when you're cleaning.  My cats want to be around me 24\7, so I just lock them in a bedroom and let them out when I'm done.

  3. Lysol shouldn't hurt your cat.

  4. If you rinsed the bleach off, it should be fine.  I think bleach is probably safer than some of the other products out there.  I like Lysol, but if it is not rinsed properly, you'll leave a soapy film.  I suggest locking the cat in another room or, if you can properly ventilate the bathroom and not spent too much time in there cleaning, just close the bathroom door while cleaning.  You MUST have proper ventilation though or you can make yourself sick.

  5. If you'll look at my profile and read my questions, you'll notice that I had the same question as you a while back.  I got some great and helpful answers from people, too, and you're welcome to read the answers I got.  It's just too much information for me to type here right now.

  6. I have heard lemon juice and arm and hammer soda can clean just about anything!! make a paste and use it as a scrub, All Purpose Cleaners:

    1) Vinegar and Salt. Mix together for a good surface cleaner.

    2) Baking Soda. Dissolve 4 tablespoons baking soda in 1 quart warm water for a general cleaner.

    3) Baking soda on a damp sponge. Baking soda cleans and deodorizes all kitchen and bathroom surfaces.

    4) Use liquid castile soap and baking soda or Borax in different ratios. Use a little soap and soda/borax with lots of water on floors, walls and counters. Use more soap, soda/Borax for tubs sinks, cat boxes, anything that can be well rinsed.

    5) For a general, all-purpose cleaner, try a paste made from baking soda and water or mix salt and water with a little vinegar.

    6) 3 tbsp. vinegar, 1/2 tsp. washing soda, 1/2 tsp. vegetable oil based liquid soap, 2 cups hot water. Mix ingredients in spray bottle or bucket. Apply and wipe clean here is a site of many that can give you some ideas GOOD LUCK

  7. Well, you could go the vinegar route, but to me that smells too bad.

Clorox now sells a "green" line of cleaning products that works pretty well, and would definitely shine up your sinks.   It's called Greenworks Natural Glass & Surface Cleaner.  It contains "coconut-based cleaning agent, corn-based ethanol, filtered water and fragrance with essential lemon oil.  Contains no phosphorus.  Contains no bleach."

However, do note that it still says "keep out of reach of children" on the back of the bottle, so that goes for pets, too.   But, there's no unpleasant smell as there is with bleach, and it's definitely not harsh and wouldn't burn your cat's paws if she accidentally steps on it.  (You'd still need to wash off her paws if she steps in it, though.)

The best thing is to shut the door to any room that you're cleaning until you're done cleaning.
