I finished a 2 year enlistment in the Army as a Tanker. I served my 2 years after basic/AIt and made my E-4 and got out. I did get an article 15 in basic training along with 4 other guys for sneaking out of the barracks. But they told us that when we graduated, that the artcle 15 would not follow us to our units. I'm almost 100% sure that it didn't follow me to my unit. I finished my enlistment and got out. I then got my DD 214 in the mail and it says RE code 3. The only think I can think of is that I got into a wreck with my tank. I hit an APC in the heat of a training exercise at NTC. It caused out $20,000 in damage. After a thorough investigation with me having to go see a bunch of people as well as my tank commander I was cleared of any wrong doing. It was deemed an unavoidable accident. So why the entry code 3. I was never in trouble. The Guidon Barer for my company and was appointed the driver of the Commanders Tank and even received a few awards during my enlistment. My question is because I wrecked this tank, is that why i have the RE code 3. Or could it be something else. I was never told a reason why. How can I find out?

  1. 1. It is possible that it was coded wrong. If you KNOW KNOW that you had an honorable discharge, I'd check up on that.

    2. My brother had a honorable discharge. His code was RE-3. it was because of the way he left. He was more or less laid off. The Air Force was letting going of people in jobs that were overmanned. They called it force reshaping. However, he can re-enlist since it was an honorable discharge. The re-entry code doesn't matter.

  2. RE3  means you can re enlist with a waiver.  As to why there is a 3 letter code as well.  That code gives an exact reason for getting out.  whether expiration term of service, school drop, misconduct ect.

  3. MBK - Expiration of Term of Service

If I were you, based on your version of things, I'd file an appeal of the RE 3 and base it on this being the wrong code given the nature of your service.

  4. what is your separation code? should be 3 letters. I can look it up for you and see what it says. shoot me an email

  5. The MBK separation code means expiration of term of service ETS.

    RE code 3 means

RE-3 - Individuals who are not qualified for continued Army service, but the disqualification is waiverable. Ineligible for enlistment unless a waiver is granted

  6. RE code 3 is your re-enlistment status. All that means is that you're eligible to re-enlist if you want.
