Had an interview today, had to reschedule it. Do I look stupid?

It was one of those group experience day interviews, pretty run of the mill. We had to bring a lot of documentation though and because I am in the middle of moving residence I couldn't provide a utility bill in my name only my parents. Then they said go now and sort it out with your bank and reschedule the interview. They were fine about it, and I have rescheduled it, but do you think it is going to reflect bad on me?

  1. As a professional and a boss myself, if detailed instructions were given to you, and you showed up with something that was not sufficient because you were in the middle of a move, I really hate to even admit this to you but you wanted a truthful answer, I would definitely think twice about hiring you and would wonder about how serious you were about getting the job.

I'm sure they're fine with it but I'm just saying it's really not the best 1st impression you want to make for future reference.

  2. Generally not a good thing. As an employer I would not be impressed. It will depend on the job. I have seen your “additional details.” It would have been better to let them know ahead of time that you would not have the docs and ask for a reschedule prior to the date. Especially since you knew it would not be ready. It shows your initiate and your ability to be prepared and proactive.

  3. Tsk. Having to jump through hoops of fire for a bunch of relative strangers - not good at all. You have my sympathies. If it were to reflect badly on you then you would be equally well advised to find another place of employment. People without that much "give" to their psyches have no place in your good life.

  4. No ofcourse not they are only human and they will understand that sometimes things get caught up and if they do hold it against you i wouldnt recomend getting a job with them x

  5. No, you won't look "stupid", but perhaps like you may look like you are not as interested/committed as you should be.

I think it's quite odd from their perspective actually - yes, it's common for employers to ask for proof of address, and they have to by law ask for your passport - but this means before they make an offer.  There's no reason why they can't interview you without this documentation.  The fact that they didn't want to, and asked you to wait until the next interview, suggests to me that perhaps they're not in a great hurry to attract new employees - they have enough people coming through.

  6. I certainly , don't fancy your chances surely you could have sorted this prior to the interview, doesn't show much forward  planning

  7. No, i don't believe that it would reflect poorly on your behalf.  Most recruiters are understanding about things like that.  I have never heard of someone having to provide a utility bill, thats weird.  But anyways I don't think it will look bad.  In the off chance that is does then they are the stupid ones for not hiring you just for not having documentation & not considering the fact that you are moving and moving is always a big mess.  I hope everything works out all right.  If not then someone else will hire you that are actually caring and understanding.

    Hope I helped :]

    good luck :]
