Had cataract removed and laser surgery but now pupil scratched. Doctor is blaming me can you help?

I had a cataract removed from both my eyes and then corrective laser surgery so i wouldn't have to wear glasses. Since my opperation one eye has only been 50% working. My doctor said that my pupil must be scratched or it could be from old age. I have never had a problem with my eyes before but believe that my doctor may have scratched my eye.

What do you guys think? Thankyou for you help!!!

  1. I would definitely get another opinion.  Depending on where the scratch is, is it possible for the scratch to heal by wearing a patch and using drops.   Get another opinion.  You might want someone to go with you as well.  Good Luck!

  2. The pupil is the black hole in  the middle of your iris.  You cannot scratch "your pupil".  You can scratch your cornea, the clear cover over your eye.  Or the plastic implant lens placed inside your eye can be scratched. (only the surgeon could have done that.)

You said you had Laser after the cataract surgery.  Was that LASIK? Or was it laser to remove the post-cataract film on the posterior capsule (YAG laser??)

LASIK involves lifting a flap of several layers of the cornea and than treating the eye with laser. The flap is then replaced back into position.  The flap can be moved or scratched by you or the doctor.

If in doubt, get a second opinion.

  3. It is possible that you scratched your pupil. Didn't you have to wear a patch at night to keep you from scratching your eyes while you slept? Your eyes were very vulnerable after surgery and it doesn't take much to injure yourself. Like another poster said, seek advice from another ophthalmologist. 2D

  4. Well, honestly, your doctor did the right thing that a doctor must do when something went wrong on his operation – blame the patient, in one way or another…

…since your doctor did the right thing as a doctor… I guess, it’s only fair that you have to do the right also as a patient who has been axed by his doctor…

…complain to the hospital management… or better, to your local & national authorities… it make senses anyway…

  5. Go to another eye doctor and have that eye checked out. But the problem is if you had the scratch right after having the cataract removed then you might have a law suit, but if it happened a few days after the operation then it is most likely your fault.

The eye new doctor might be able to give you some eye drops or a gel to help that scratch heal.
