and i mean suffering 4 86 yrs of not winnin the championship. did giving up the bambino made that effect 4 86 yrs., or jus for those days he played 4 the yanks, and how many total championships do u see on both teams if that trade had never happened?

one last question is would the rivalry still be that intense w/o the trade?

  1. The Red Sox did not "give up" Babe Ruth.

Frazee sold him for $125,000 dollars + other considerations.

The rest of your question is redundant and irrelevant.

We can never go back and try again.

  2. who cares, the yankees are becoming what i used to like about the red sox (even though i wil never like the yanks) and the red sox are starting to become what i hate about the yankees

  3. Probably not. Babe Ruth was the best player in baseball, so chances are the Red Sox would have a certain prestige, which would help them keep winning. The Yankees having Ruth helped them get the prestige and image they have now and I say that as a Yankees fan. The course of baseball history would definitely have changed drastically had the Babe stayed in Boston. Of course, being a Yankees fan, I'm happy things have worked out the way they did, even with the Sox having won twice in the last four years.

As for the championships: I don't think the Red Sox would have had 26 titles, nor do I think the Yankees would have gone almost 90 years without a championship. But I do think the Sox would have been a more successful and glamorous team.

  4. lol

    nope

the curse of the bambino wud be the other way around

  5. hmmm i see what you mean and maybe your right.

and yes it would still be

  6. History wouldn't have gone much differently. Boston prior to 2000 had a looooong string of bad decisions. Yankees meanwhile knew how to find players.

The trade is irrelevant to the rivalry. The rivalry doesn't even really flare up until the 60s when the Giants and Dodgers leave New York. Boston meanwhile is more worried about winning it all than beating the Yanks. The first real spark of hatred between the fans comes in 1973, two beloved players, Fisk and Munson have a huge fight. After that it more becomes the fans rivalry.

But really the rivalry would have happened regardless. The two biggest baseball cities constantly in the same division, fueled by a cold war spending mentality over the last few years and constant exposure on espn has overblown everything. So in short, Babe Ruth has nothing to do with creating the rivalry.
