Had to work hard for my innings, but I enjoyed it: Vijay – Cricket News Update
Speaking about his stellar match-winning 113 against the Delhi Daredevils at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chepauk on May 25, Chennai Super Kings batsman http://www.senore.com/Cricket/M-Vijay-c1867 claimed that the feat had been hard work, but he had enjoyed it.
“… certainly I had to work hard for it … It was hot and humid and I had to take a lot of singles and doubles. I enjoyed the innings and I couldn’t have asked for more,” he said.
The Chennai Super Kings, two-time Indian Premier League champions, secured a spot in the tournament final for the third time in a row, after they claimed a massive 86-run victory against the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Delhi-c780 Daredevils.
The MS Dhoni-led side had been erratic in terms of performance throughout the league stage of the tournament, and obtained a spot in the playoffs only because contenders http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Rajasthan-c837 Royals and Royal Challengers Bangalore were eliminated by the Deccan Chargers.
However, they appear to have tapped into their true potential in the playoffs stage as they went on to demolish the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mumbai-c820 Indians by 38 runs in the first elimination final, before stepping over the Delhi Daredevils (who had dominated the league stage of
the competition) to clinch a place in the final, due to be played against the Kolkata Knight Riders on May 27.
The Super Kings owe their most recent victory largely to Vijay’s superb century – the 28-year-old scored a mammoth 113 off 58, and his belligerent display involved a devastating 11th over, during which he hit Daredevils skipper Sehwag for two
fours and two sixes. The right-hander’s efforts enabled his side to post a formidable total of 222 – the highest team total in the current season of the IPL so far.
“I just went in and started striking the ball,” he said in reference to his match philosophy. “I always go there with wanting to win the match. It’s a great feeling to contribute for the team.”
He went on to point out that after the first strategic time-out, the wicket had grown increasingly slower as the match progressed – a factor which could have proved bewildering for the new batsman. In regards to this, Vijay claimed he took the responsibility
to carry the team forward on himself, but added that he had never expected the team to exceed 200.
Speaking about the team’s upcoming chance to be crowned IPL champions for a third time, the batsman claimed that they would not take their opponents lightly, but were more than prepared for the face-off.
“Every team can beat the other on a given day … we need to be wary and cannot take things lightly. The only thing I can tell you is that we are geared up for the match,” he said.
