Haeji Kang performs well at Navistar LPGA Classic 2012
South Korean Haeji Kang shot an overall 273 at the Navistar LPGA Classic 2012 to share the third position with American Angela Stanford and her fellow South Korean M.J. Hur.
Kang was among the star performers right from the start of the much-hyped tournament, as she made it hard for her nearest rivals to surge past her.
The South Korean start could not impress her fans at Prattville, Alabama in the first round as she posted a 70. However, the last three rounds were the scene of tough battle that saw Kang storm to the third
position.
Speaking to the Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA) Tour at the end of the third round that saw her post a 67, Kang said that she is pretty thrilled after performing well on Saturday as her putting
was amazing this time.
She said that she felt a bit under pressure on the front nine, but she put her best foot forward on the back nine in an attempt to get back in contention.
“Today I actually hit it very close enough to knock those putts in, but front nine I hit it very close but I didn't make any putts, so I was a little frustrated. But I hold myself up on the back nine and then
I tried to be confident on the putts and it started to went in, and then I had a 5‑under on the back nine, which was great,” the LPGA star said.
Speaking of the weather conditions, Kang said that she is happy to see that winds did not wreak havoc in the first three rounds, which is good for every player in the roster. She said that if weather remained
calm on the final day, she would do even better.
“Definitely I have a lot of chance tomorrow because I love this tournament and I love this golf course. I think it suits me,” Kang said.
American Stacy Lewis surprised the spectators at Prattville on Sunday after she outperformed the defending champion Lexi Thompson by two strokes.
Lewis carded an overall score of 270, whereas Thompson failed to maintain her second-round lead in the third round as she posted an unimpressive 74.
