Hafiz Faisal, Putra Eka Rhoma bid adieu to SCG Thailand Open 2012 – Badminton News
It was the end of the road for Indonesia’s Hafiz Faisal and Putra Eka Rhoma in SCG Thailand Open as they lost to Low Juan Shen-Yip Jiun Tan in first round on June 7, 2012.
However, they earned great deal of respect and admiration for the fighting spirit they showed in this 53-minute tussle before going down with 17-21, 24-22 and 20-22.
The Indonesians lost with a minor difference every time and walked tall after putting great show of court craft in opening match.
Now the triumphant Malaysian duo Low Juan Shen-Yip Jiun Tan will be up against its compatriot couple Mohd Zakry Abdul Latif-Mohd Fairuzizuan Mohd Tazari in pre quarter-finals.
Earlier in first round encounter, Hafiz Faisal and Putra Eka started their marathon in faultless manner and reached at 7-4 at top gear.
They did not lose this acceleration and doubled the lead with couple of continuous rallies. At mid-game interval, they were standing at a dominating position of 11-6 but they committed some fatal mistakes which triggered the collapse in later part.
The opposing team played its heart out and levelled the score at 11 before establishing a reasonable lead with 16-13.
At this point, the Indonesians made a swift progress and caught their challengers at 16 but it was not enough to stop Low Juan-Yip Jiun from bagging first match point with 21-17.
However, story was entirely different in next chapter of this saga as it belonged to Hafiz Faisal and Putra Eka.
This time they did not allow their competitors to establish a comfortable lead and stayed close on scoreboard.
Though, they were just a nail ahead of Malaysians until half time but later part saw them picking up the pace and raising their lead.
They had to play three game points but finally a favourable margin of 24-22 grant them permit to enter in decider as victorious.
Third and final set was full of surprises as the Indonesians were at driving seat in most part of this race but they lost control over final rallies which ultimately cost them a crucial match.
Low Juan-Yip Jiun raised hands as champions after putting a convincing total of 22-20.
