William Haggas trained Fury lands a majestic victory in the Betfred Hambleton Stakes at York
The William Haggas trained, Fury, secured a huge victory for his connections, as he bolted through the Betfred Hambleton Stakes (Handicap) at York on 17thMay, 2012.
Mounted by rider, Ryan Moore, the four-year-old was neck in neck with Prince Of Johanne, and managed to take a narrow lead on him.
He broke through the wire first in a dramatic manner, a nose before the, Prince of Johanne.
Since his racing career began on 18th September, 2010, this was the third victory for the son of Invincible Spirit, out of mare Courting, who raced yesterday with the 3-1 shot.
This was the Cheveley Park Stud owned gelding’s first race at York, and he used the good surface of the track to his advantage and came out on top.
The second place finish was slightly disappointing for the, Prince Of Johanne, who was expected to deliver an exceptional finish based on the closing race of, 2011.
The trainee of Tom Tate notched the victory in the Betfred Cambridgeshire (Heritage Handicap) at Newmarket on 24th September, 2011, where he was teamed with rider, John Fahy and finished 1 ¾ length ahead of, Stevie Thunder.
The winning trainer was immensely pleased with the performance his horse delivered and he expressed his glee in these words:
"I'm really, really pleased. He went off the boil last year but he's a much stronger horse now and he's really fought when he needed to today.
"He's been running consistently well in really big handicaps so to win here is richly deserved.
"The fact that this was a Listed race makes it even better and it's good news for the family. I don't want to run him in the Hunt Cup so I think we'll go for a Group race somewhere.
"He could go for something at Chantilly the Sunday before Royal Ascot."
The two grey horses delivered an exciting race, keeping their connections and the spectators on their toes.
Fury seems to have a bright future and many opportunities ahead of him, with a range of considerable options to choose from. With his form and strength, he can deliver an outstanding performance in any race.
