Haider opens new doors of investigation for already troubled Pakistan cricket
The Pakistan wicketkeeper Zulqarnain Haider, who is making the headlines of Pakistan cricket these days after he fled Dubai for Britain's capital in the middle of the team’s tour of the UAE, citing death threats from unknown people
as his reasons, has revealed that he was bullied while playing domestic cricket in Pakistan as well.
While talking to a Pakistani news channel, the runaway gloveman of Pakistan said he had been given directions to include such and such players in his side in a domestic tournament of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 cricket. "Yes I have got threats that
I should play so and so player, or not play that player,'' said Haider.
The latest statement from Haider arose questions regarding a List A match between National Bank of Pakistan (NBP) and Lahore Eagles during 2008-09 Royal Bank of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Scotland-c756 Cup. The escapee was leading the Eagles during the tournament
but was surprisingly removed from his role ahead of the match and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ahmed-Dar-c42312 was set as the new in charge.
The game was a must-win fixture for the National Bank of Pakistan side to improve their run-rate in the tournament and make it to the semis of the event, and NBP acheived their task quite convincingly after defeating the Lahore Eagles
by 10 wickets. Haider had scored a two-ball duck in that match.
The match was a kind of one-sided clash as the Eagle’s meagre total of 122 all out was chased by NBP in just 6.1 overs with all wickets intact. It was http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Salman-c88163 Butt’s day though, as he finished unbeaten with a 25-ball 92 looting, with
16 muscular boundaries and four lofty sixes.
The unusual result was criticised by the media and local cricket pundits but the Pakistan Cricket Board closed the matter saying nothing untoward had been found about the match. But the closed files are likely to be opened again after
Haider’s recent statement and this time ICC and its ACSU might be intervening the probe.
Earlier, the Pakistan government denied to support Haider’s appeal to seek asylum in the United Kingdom saying that he should have informed the government of Pakistan had he been threatened by anyone.
"The government will not support any move from Zulqarnain to get asylum in the UK. We don't support his actions and believe he should have come to us if he was under threat from anyone. He didn't have confidence in the national team management or Board (PCB)," said
the sports minister of Pakistan, Mr. Ijaz Hussain Jhakrani.
