Hail damage to my car and the deductible?

I was in a hail storm and received hail damage to my car, my deductible is $500.00 dollars; instead of my insurance company sending me 1872.00 they sent me 1372.00 but when i took my car to the repair shop they told me that i owe them a 500.00 deductible as well. Why did i have to pay 500.00 to the insurance company and 500.00 to the car repair place? I feel like i paid a 1000.00 dollar deductible.

  1. You don't have to pay $500 to your insurance company.

Whoever told you that was wrong.

The cost to fix your car is $1,872.00

You pay your deductible of $500.00 to the car repair shop.

The insurance company pays the rest.

  2. The $500 was 'deducted' from the payment the insurance company gave you. It cost $1,872.00 to repair the car, your portion of that amount is $500.00.

  3. You aren't paying $1000 you are only paying $500.  Total damages were 1872.  Your insurance company paid $1372.  That leaves $500 left to pay on the damages.  You only pay $500 to the repair shop not both the repair shop and the insurance company.

  4. you are supposed to collect as much as resource as you can by searching the relevant keyword in search engine,if you have good luck there, then your problem solved.however,if you could not find the fitful answer by doing that, here is the resource i prefered.http://car-insurance.easyideas4u.info/ca...

  5. just sounds like a mix up.

ring your insurer and let them know.

(we're all humans and make mistakes - including insurance co. staff!!)

  6. If you would have paid the insurance company the 500, they would have given you the full amount and would owe the repair shop nothing.  It's pretty simple 3rd grade math.  Stop jumping strait to "someone scamming me" and take a minute to think about it and go "Duh".

  7. Your insurance sent you $1,372 because you are responsible for paying the first $500 to the repair facility.  You didn't pay the insurance company $500, they paid you $1,372.  So zero out of your pocket to the insurance company, plus $500 to the repair facility doesn't add up to $1,000, does it?  Didn't think so.

  8. You didn't pay the deductible twice. The company deducts the $500 from the damage amount and you pay that to the shop when you pick up the car.

Out of the $1872 you should pay only $500. This leaves a balance of $1372 which the company has paid. So everything is cool. Just pay the $500 to the shop and everybody will be happy.

  9. If the total Bill was $1872 , You were responsible for the first $500 (paid to the Body Shop) and the insurance company was reponsible for $1372 (which you were paid). Just look at your actual out of pocket..you only paid $500 for the repair.

If the Total bill was $5,000 , The insurance co would pay $4,500 and you, still ony $500

  10. Why did you pay $500 to the insurance company?

  11. You shouldnt pay your insurance company....you pay the deductible to the repair shop. Your insurance company pays you for the amount of damage minus your deductable. The payments you make to your insurance company for insurance is not your deductable.
