Question:

Hair cut for bank job ?

by  |  earlier

I have a job interview at a bank and was wondeing what hair style is acceptable... My hair is long, about shoulder height. I dont want to cut it to short but at the same time I don't mind cutting it shorter.

Does anyone have any suggestions of how I can look smart with long hair. Is it better tied up? (i can just about do that) or should I cut it shorter?

Thanks

P.S I'm a guy by the way,

Thanks

  1. Oh, well you can put a little gel on and smooth it to the back

dont cut it too much if you like it

It what makes you different and unique x*x

    Good Luck

  2. cut it really short or cut it so its really level.

    good-luck!

  3. Just make sure it is clean.....nothing looks worse that a man with long scruffy dirty hair.

You could always tie it back neatly for work.

  4. It's more appropriate to judge on ability to do the job than someone's appearance.  However, a bank is a corporate environment, so whatever looks better with a suit.

It's shoulder length by the way - shoulder height made me smile as it sounded like it started at the floor.

  5. Banks are still pretty conservative - or if they aren't, their most important clients ARE, so you're more or less stuck having to adopt a conservative look. For now I would cut it short - too short to tie up. Get it cut short for real. If you don't get the job, it'll grow.

    Good luck!

EDIT: MediumDave, I had the same thought when I read the words "bank job" :) It made me think of "Dog Day Afternoon!"

  6. Generally speaking, people doing bank jobs just put a pair of tights over their head. I don't think sartorial elegance is high on their list of priorities.

  7. It depends on what kind of job you're applying for; if it's a front office position you should cut it immediately

  8. It depends what you're going to do in the bank.  If it's sales, 'customer facing' then at least tie it back, but they'd prefer it cut.

It also depends on what type of bank.  Japanese and British banks tend to be more conservative, and some European too. Americans are more laid back.

If it's a back office job, try and tie it up for the interview, but they probably won't bother about it. At one time having long hair was a BIG no-no; when I first started the company I worked for wouldn't allow brown suits.

These days though, they're a lot less bothered.

I work for an American bank, I wear jeans and a T-shirt to work, my hair makes wurzel gummage look presentable and no-one gives a stuff.  American banks are more concerned whether you get your job done.

  9. get a 0.5, its best short so you dont have to keep on getting it cut
