Question:

Hair in dogs ears? ?

My dog was shaking his head every few minutes and itching at them with his back legs. When I looked in his ears i could see a few pieces of hair where I couldn't reach.

I didn't get the hair out but he stopped shaking his head and itching. He did this again about two weeks later though.

Just wondering is there any way to get the hair out without hurting him? he's a mutt with floppy ears

or a way to just keep it out?

I usually brush him everyday and he isnt shedding that much is there anything else I could do to prevent the hair from getting in his ears?

thanks a lot

Its not a ear infection and his ears are very clean other than the few peices of hair

  1. Try 2 put hair removal cream, it's like shaving, kinda! My dog had a lot of hair so we did that and we got the cream out with tissues or cotton swabs.

  2. My dog was doing this too! It isn't the hair thats bothering him most likely, it is water in it.

    Reasons:

    -Sprinklers

    -Playing in water

    -Drinking too violently ;)

  3. You're vet can trim them.  Or, what I do is trim it myself.  I have a poodle-chihuahua who has very hairy ears.  I have my husband hold him still and I snip.  I don't get it all - but it helps him.  I also trim the hair on the underside of the ear.

  4. the same thing happens to my puggle  when i am vacuuming i use the attachments and  vacuum my dog you can lift their ears and just lightly go over them with getting in there. it doesn't hurt them so don't worry.

    good luck (:

  5. I'd have the vet double check his ears to be sure he doesnt have mites or an infection..  it could just as easily be an inner ear infection!

He may also be suffering from allergies which makes his ears itchy.

A groomer can show you how to remove the ear hair tho.  There is a special powder for the ears.. it helps dry out any moisture, and makes it easier to grip the hair.  There is a little tool that you can get to grab the hair with and pull, but I prefer to use my fingers, as dog's dont sit still, and I accidently pinch them with the tool.. OUCH!

You cant prevent hair from growing in their ears.  But the hair also will not be causing your dog to itch and shake his head either.  If the hair is thick enough, it will prevent airflow, and allow for bacteria or yeast to grow and cause infections tho.

  6. The hair is in his ears to keep things out of his ears! leave them alone!

WHY would you deliberately remove protective hair from your dogs ears?

Hair doesn't 'get in' to the ears, it grows naturally for a reason. It's normal for dogs to regularly scratch their head....

  7. I use my old nose hair trimmer.  My dog has long floppy ears and lots of hair in his ears.  Sometimes they will scratch if a breeze blows their hair.  Blow lightly on their ear and watch them flicker.

Really, the nose trimmer is the safest and best way to get those annoying hairs out of their ears and between toes.
