Question:

Hair removal questions?

This is my first time posting a question. I'm pretty nervous about it for some reason. I've been a lurker for a while. Putting that aside:

Hi, I'm 14 and a female. I have upper lip hair and my parents won't really let me do much to it because they're afraid it'll grow back thicker. But it is VERY VERY noticeable. I have dark and thick hair, and I think it is heredity; my older sister has it too. I guess I want to clear up a few of my confusion about hair removal? Hopefully I can convince my parents to allow me to do something about it.

To start, is tweezing the same as waxing except at a slower pace of hair removal? I have tweezed my underarm hair for about a year and it's getting really stubby. In fact, it's already stubby. I figured that tweezing removes hair from roots, so that's why I tweezed.

That brings me to my second question, does waxing ACTUALLY thin out hair? I've tried waxing my eyebrows once. I don't know if the pace of hair growth or hair thickness changed. But I tweezed it afterward whenever stray hairs grew.

My third question is, are there any other ways to remove facial hair for long periods of time? I have dark and thick hair, so bleaching will probably stand out, especially in the sun as I've read. I know shaving facial hair is absolutely out of the question, and so is electrocist(sp?) and laser.

Final question is, Could you help suggest me some ways to convince my parents to allow me to do something about it? They're pretty strict on it. it's not like I get made fun of or anything, it just bothers me A LOT. I guess I'm pretty sensitive about it? Even from a few feet away from the mirror, I can see a faint outline of it. Also, I want to be able to feel comfortable with taking pictures with friends without having it showing and feeling the need to photo shop it out.

Sorry for so many questions. But thank you ahead of time for taking the time to read this and hopefully answer.

  1. It's ok on there being so many ???

First it is a myth that hair grows back darker or thicker... if that was true there would be no bald men on earth... think about it.

Tweezing is like waxing... that is something that I think you can do a little at a time on your own in private... may hurt at first but you will get use to it... hopefully your parents won't notice... I would skip asking them... if they notice start crying uncontrollably about how horrible it is for you amongst your peers having the manly facial hair... it's free and is something you can do youself...

Tweezing and waxing last longer because it pulls the entire hair out root and all... stay smooth longer... may stay gone a long as 2 weeks... it won't grow back like a beards stubble... grows back softer than shaving... repeated waxing and tweezing injures the papilla that grows the hair... over time of repeated waxing and tweezing... hair becomes softer in texture, lighter in color and in time can eventually stop growing all together...

When you are on you own and have $$$$ you can get the laser treatment... but until then I would tweeze them...

    I hope this helps:-))).

  2. Hi there ,

i had the same problem ,

i suggest not tweezing , if the hair is as noticeble as you say .

try bleaching with the brand ' jolen '

i have been using it for about 2 years and it works for about three weeks to a month .

and as far as tweezing your underarm , it is pretty pointless . I suggest shaving , only for the armpit .

But waxing does thin out hair , but just remember, if you cant keep up the waxing every 2 weeks. DONT DO IT !

at first it will grow back thicker and darker but then it will go away after about 5 - 10 years .. not really worth it .

But with bleaching you can barely see is .

So i suggest asking your parents to bleach, you wont see it in the mirror , even up close .

    Hope i helped !
