Hair tips, need help with hair. What should I do?

My hair is medium length for a guy, thick and straight and it has the helmet look to it and I never know what to do with it. My mom suggests to do a messy look to it but every time I put gel in it the bottom of my hair flips sort of. I would cut it but I'm saving that for Halloween but until then, what do I do with it now? Advice, help?

Don't put gel in it and comb it forward to make sort of a bang in the front. Experiment a lot with combing techniques (I wouldn't use gel unleess you just came out of the shower) until you find one you like. But your mom is right about the messy look, so you should bring a picture of a style you might like to a hairstylist and just ask for a trim (so that it will grow out)

Why wait for a new look? I think you should go for a Matthew McConaughey type hair...(you can Google his name and see images) If that's not your style, go short! I know someone who went super-short (but not buzz cut) and he loves it!

Well first, go to a hairdresser in your neigborhood and she or he can help you find ways to make your hair work!

i do the messy hair style all the time when you wash your hair next time use a towle and dry your hair with it move the towle all over your hair for 1 minute then lift it off and it will look spiky then take a come and go all over your hair with it that is what i do it works

I am hairdresser, and for the most part when guys come into the salon with that problem *if they want to keep their hair on the longer side* we give them whats called the "Skater Cut" wich is really prob. want you have already, just very layered up *to get ride of the mop-look*  Even though you really dont want to cut it i suggest you get a tiny trim and just ask for more layers, the layers wont take off the length and it will deff get rid of your mop!
