  1. Yes, it can be called 'low lights' and other terms.  The problem is that hairdressers will use different terms for sales appeal, and to describe something different they are doing, and it can get very confusing for the consumer (you).  Words don't always mean the same to you and to me.  It's always best to take in pictures of what you want, or describe it completely.  Be careful of the words you use.

I would question your decision to put light brown into very light blonde hair.  Now, here we have a difference of terms: my idea of what "light brown" is most likely different from what you have in mind.  But brown is a very dark colour, even if it is light.  I think you may be referring to a dark blonde, which would look better with very light hair.  Again, be sure you have pictures, or look at some swatches in the salon, to indicate exactly what you have in mind.

It is always best in these kinds of situations to consult with a professional hair colourist to get the best work done.  They may have some ideas of alternatives that you haven't considered.  They have the skill and experience to know what will work with your type of hair, with your facial features, with your kind of cut (some colouring techniques can really show off a special cut).  Be sure to ask about cost, about up-keep, about special conditioning, etc.  You don't want any surprises.

  2. Lowlights is the right term, but you could just explain to the hairdresser what you want. You wouldn't really want to DIY anyways because after bleaching other colours can go really weird like greenish and purple and stuff.

  3. yes you are right... if you want to add some darker pieces to your hair it is called low lights or reverse highlighting.. and i reccomend you have it done professionally or at least at a beauty school
