Hairdressers: What is 'razoring'?

I know it helps thin out the hair, but HOW? I don't understand, do they actually use a razor like they use to shave mens hair! Please explain. Website links to diagrams would help lol :)

It doesn't really thin it, its just like cutting the hair ends but instead of using scissors they use a little comb thing which has a blade in it so that they comb it through and it cuts all the hairs at different lengths.  I HATE having it done to my hair, I find it makes it look really frizzy.
