Hairsylists..why is it that salons cannot quote a fee for services?

even after looking at a head of hair most stylists add more money after they get you in the chair. This is not good business. Why is it that they charge more for curly hair than straight hair. Isn't this a prejudice

practice?

  1. A stylist should be able to quote a price for you once they have looked at your hair during the consultation.  Sometimes when people need their hair color corrected (because they have messed it up at home) the stylist doesn't know what the total amount of procedures will be until she/he gets through each step.  All cases are different when it comes to color because all heads of hair are different and require different things to get the desired look.

As for the curly vs straight thing-it takes alot more effort and time to blowout curly hair.  That is the only reason that I see for them charging a little more.

If you are very concerned about pricing get a clear price at the very beginning.  If the stylist says you need a deep condition or something additional ask if it is extra.  It is wrong if the stylist tells you a price and then charges you more.

Pricing for hair is mostly based on salon area, experience of stylist, time, effort, amount of chemicals used, and unique talents.

  2. My hair dresser has a price list and EVERYTHING is up front for EVERYONE!  One of my daughters has VERY CURLY hair and her pricces are the same as mine!!

  3. I noticed this too, but it WAS on a board. It charged $12 for a haircut. $5 for styling short hair, $7 for medium hair, and $10 for long hair. Then it was anohter $5 to wash/shampoo your hair, and ANOTHER $3 to BLOWDRY the hair. The last 2 weren't stated on the board however.

I walked in with hair around my butt, walked out with it a bit below my shoulders, and it cost me $30 bucks all in all even though they advertised $12 haircuts.

  4. The only reason why I can think..is that they are renting a chair, and make there own prices. If they aren't making there own price, Hairstylists have a price list they follow..If the girl was talking about products, She was probley just stating how much everything would be. They can't charge you more, because your hair is curly, or less, if you have straight hair...That's not how it goes.
