Croatian football giants Hajduk Split have confirmed that seven-time Ligue 1 champions Olympique Lyonnais have lodged a bi for highly-rated Croatian Under-21 International Ante Vukusic.
Les Gones have been monitoring the youngster’s progress for quite some time and even tried bringing the youngster to Stade Gerland earlier this January. However, the player chose to stay at the club.
Reports in French media now indicate that Lyon have once again activated their interest in the striker. Croatian newspaper, Sportske Nosvosti indicates that a source from the Hajduk Split direction has confirmed Lyon’s approach for the 20-year-old.
“There has been serious contact. Lyon made an inquiry about the player,” the source claimed. The Croatian newspaper also claimed that Lyon are willing to give six million Euros for the young striker.
Last season, Vukusic scored 14 goals in 29 matches for Majstori s mora and is considered as one of the greatest hopes of Croatian football. The youngster is also attracting considerable amount of interest from German Bundesliga side, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/VfL-Wolfsburg-c40881.
Ante Vukusic was initially identified by former Lyonnais coach Claude Puel. After the departure of the former AS Monaco coach, the idea of signing the youngster was not forgotten and newly-appointed coach Remi Garde is equally impressed by the promising
player.
Ante Vukusic is a product of the Hajduk Split youth system and made his debut for the Split first-team in a 5-0 league win over http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Croatia-c2879 Sesvete. Since then, the youngster has scored 21 goals in 55 appearances for Bili in the league.
The Sinj-born player has represented Croatia at Under 18, 19 and 21 levels and is yet to be capped for the national side.
The youngster signed a contract with Split in 2009 which would keep him at the Stadion Poljud until the summer of 2014. Hajduk Split manager Krasmir Balakov is reluctant to on letting go of a player who he feels still needs to develop a lot before making
a name for himself in Europe.
However, the youngster’s move to Lyon could prove to be a good step in developing his abilities. Training with the likes of Lisandro Lopez and Bafetimbi Gomis would go a long way in making Vukusic realise his full potential.
