‘The Dream’ gives Miami Heat a realistic goal i.e. to win three out of the next five championships.
In recent years, many NBA stars have sought out the help of Hakeem Olajuwon in order to play post up basketball. The list includes the likes of LeBron James, Dwight Howard, Kobe Bryant and most recently Amar’e Stoudemire.
But none have achieved more than LeBron. King James was already a nightmare for opposition around the league and now with additional post up skills he has become even scarier. The results of those training sessions not only helped
LeBron become a better post up player but also allowed him to be a more comfortable leader for the Miami Heat, who went all the way to win the NBA championship last season.
However, it was only the beginning and just the first step to the promise of 7 championships which was made upon the arrival of the Big Three in South Beach two seasons ago. There is no doubt that LeBron is more than capable of
leading Miami to multiple championships and Olajuwon himself has labelled him as a special case.
But in a recent interview to Sun-Sentinel, the 49 year NBA legend old took to a more realistic approach of what this current Miami team can achieve.
“I think it will be much easier for him,” Olajuwon says. “All the pressure of, ‘OK, can he do it?’ That’s gone now.”…
“The goal is different,” Olajuwon says. “It’s not to prove a point to people. Now it’s just to take advantage of the opportunity: ‘Can we really achieve something great in the real sense? Can we get three out of five [championships]?’…
“That is a very realistic goal, In fact, it’s scary.”
Olajuwon is spot on it seems. James, Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh are capable enough of achieving that feat.
Sure, constantly being in the NBA Finals will be a tough task, but it is achievable and despite the promise of Boston Celtics, Indiana Pacers and Chicago Bulls in the Eastern Conference, Miami is always going to have a chance.
However, their work will not be to just emerge out of top heavy East but Heat also needs to tackle Oklahoma City Thunder and the Los Angeles Lakers in the years to come.
Sure both the Western giants are formidable, but Heat is still the team to beat.
