Hakim Warrick upbeat about a Phoenix Suns resurgence – NBA Update
Phoenix Suns forward Hakim Warrick has declared that he has all the confidence in the abilities of his team.
The Suns have been stuck in mediocrity for a while now, but Warrick believes the team is bound to experience an upturn in fortunes next season.
The Desert City franchise did not make any headlines last season and couldn’t even pose a decent challenge for the playoff spot. And this all happened with Steven Nash in the side.
Nash is arguably the best point guard, NBA has seen since the great John Stockton retired, but he is now on his last legs. The players around him are simply not of a high enough standard for the excellent Nash to turn Phoenix into
a NBA World Championship contending unit. In addition to that, the Suns didn’t make any waves in the trade market either before the NBA lockout began and are not expected to once it is over.
Still, Hakim Warrick is not one to despair.
He believes the Suns have some decent pieces in place and a concerted push by the team could see them end up in the playoffs next season.
"We definitely think we can be better. The game of basketball comes down to two or three possessions here or there and we could be a playoff team. As the season went on, we got more comfortable." The Arizona Republic quoted Warrick
as having said.
Warrick was similarly upbeat over his own progression. The player did not enjoy a good season last time out and his numbers dropped to a low he hadn’t seen for many years. The forward also saw reduced time given out on the court
and that could have been a reason for his relatively weak performance.
He is however sure that next season he will record an improvement. The former Syracuse player believes he has the ability to perform at a higher level,
"I really want to get out there," Warrick said. "I'm excited to play better because I know I can play better. I didn't have the season I expected and that I know I can have. I want to go out and prove that I can do better." Warrick
said.
Hakim is just one of the many players on Phoenix’s roster trying to up their game. To Phoenix’s despair though, he is also one of many that are just not good enough to help the Suns become a serious power in the Western conference,
like they used to be when Nash and Shawn Marion were playing together.
Still, at least the Suns are going to into next season with a positive attitude.
