Hal Steinbrenner feels New York Yankees disappointed the fans – MLB News
The New York Yankees’ principal owner Hal Steinbrenner stated without any doubt, that the team disappointed their fans in the post-season and that the general manager Brian Cashman and the management are aware of the problem.
Before entering into Pfister Hotel in Milwaukee for the owner session of the GM meetings, Steinbrenner did not use hard words, or harsh style, but his content was full of his kind, the club used to say, Steinbrennerian. The club was unbroken for the most
of the time in this past season, but there are still few problems and these needs to be solved before 2012 season, commented Steinbrenner.
The New York Yankees were unstoppable in the regular season, but they had a bad American League Division Series against the Detroit Tigers, who sent the club out of the season with a 3-2 defeat in five-game competition. After a humiliating defeat in ALDS,
it was supposed that the club would empty many of their camp, but in contrast, Brian Cashman got a new three-year contract and then the contract of the Carsten Charles Sabathia was extended. No-one was left to go and now it has been seen that the Yankees would
not hire any new agent for the 2012 season.
"We're looking at everything and looking at everybody, as we do every offseason," Steinbrenner said. "We've got a couple of areas that we've addressed where we need to improve and we're going to look to do that. But I'm not going to get into who or how much
or anything else."
The New York Yankees spent the whole season without any potential starter to back CC Sabathia. Steinbrenner confirmed that the club might sign a free agent, but whoever he will be will be low profile like Freddy Garcia and Bartolo Colon, instead of expensive
C.J. Wilson and Roy Oswalt or Japan’s Yu Darvish.
"It wouldn't surprise me if we did, it wouldn't surprise me if we didn't," Steinbrenner said in response to a question about possible free-agent signings. "It's just too early for that. I hate to be vague, but it is mid-November."
Yesterday, there were reports that Cashman had a meeting with the agent of Wilson and Oswalt, Bob Garber on Tuesday, but there was not much news about the expected contract. Wilson might not come to the Yankees because of the high price tag that revolves
around $100 million for five years, commented one official.
