  1. my grandmother was alive in both 1910 and 1986. she was only a little girl but she saw the 1910 apparition. it was one of the best ever and everybody on the planet saw it. relatively few people saw the crummy 1986 apparition.

  2. They would have to be 172

  3. Haley's comet comes every 76 years, not 86. So lots of people have seen it twice.

  4. I don't know if anyone ever has but it is possible. You are like two when you first see it. The 86 years later your 88 and you see it twice.

  5. Yeah, Mark Twain  a great writer from American. he borned one the day the comet appeared, when the comet reappeared once more. It was the day of his death.

  6. If I live long enough, it's possible I could see it return in 2061. I saw it when it came by in 1986.

  7. In late 1985, I was invited (with my telescope) to a Halley's Comet party.

There, I met two sisters (their children and grand-children had organized the party) who had seen it in 1910, when one of them was 7 years old.

I was able to set up my telescope and show them the comet (it already had a faint tail when seen in the telescope).  So I know these two have seen it twice.

  8. Well, the last time it came was 1986, so someone alive today would have to be 108 years old, at least, to have seen it twice.  Possible, but unlikely.

I know one person who was alive for two returns (barely) - Mark Twain.

    From Wikipedia:

In 1909, Twain is quoted as saying:“I came in with Halley's Comet in 1835. It is coming again next year, and I expect to go out with it. It will be the greatest disappointment of my life if I don't go out with Halley's Comet. The Almighty has said, no doubt: 'Now here are these two unaccountable freaks; they came in together, they must go out together.”

His prediction was accurate—Twain died of a heart attack on April 21, 1910 in Redding, Connecticut, one day after the comet's closest approach to Earth (see Halley's Comet, 1835 entry).

  9. I saw in 1986, but it only looked like an out of focus star.  :c(
