Haley Anderson and Jackson Wilcox impress in swimming events: Day three – 2011 Texas Invitational
Haley Anderson of USC and Jackson Wilcox of Texas impressed the aquatic crowd by claiming gold medals of Women’s 1650 yard freestyle and Men’s 1650 yard freestyle respectively on the concluding day of the 2011 Texas Invitational on Saturday, December 3rd.
The event took place at the Longhorn Aquatics of University of Texas in Austin. The session concluded with the events of 1650 yard freestyle and 200 yard back-stroke in Men’s and Women’s category.
The opening event of the session was 1650 yard freestyle in Women’s category, where Anderson demonstrated her astonishing efforts and claimed the crown of the event. With her unmatchable sprint and gruelling strategy, Anderson remained considerably ahead
of her competitors and reached the finishing end with a top finest timing of 16 minutes and 03.22 seconds.
She was trailed by Kaitlin Pawlowicz of Texas, who remained 4.35 seconds slower than her and submitted a time of 16 minutes and 07.57 seconds for silver medal. With her impeccable effort, Pawlowicz remained in a lead of almost 11 seconds over Andie Taylor
of Stanford, who clinched bronze medal of the event by clocking a time of 16 minutes and 18.95 seconds.
Next was the equivalent event in Men’s category, where Wilcox transpired as the most determinant swimmer for gold medal. With his immaculate effort, he crushed hopes of his competitors and appeared on the finishing end with a top fastest timing of 14 minutes
and 52.55 seconds.
He was followed by Michael McBroom of Texas, who remained in a lead of 11.18 seconds from the gold medallist and submitted a time of 15 minutes and 03.73 seconds for silver medal. Matt Barber of Arizona claimed the third fastest spot of the event as he ended
his swim in a time of 15 minutes and 17.32 seconds.
In the meantime, Maya DiRado of Stanford occupied the title of Women’s 200 yard Back-stroke. DiRado not only grabbed gold medal of the event but she also lowered the championship mark of the event by posting a time of 1 minute and 52.57 seconds.
Her gold winning effort was 0.80 seconds under the previous record of 1 minute and 53.37 seconds. She was chased by Lauren Smart of Unattached, who remained 0.90 seconds slower than the gold medallist and ended her swim with an effort of 1 minute and 53.47
seconds for silver medal.
Smart was traced by Sarah Denninghoff of Arizona, who was 0.59 seconds slower than her former swimmer and posted a time 1 minute and 54.06 seconds for bronze medal.
The championship ended after the conclusion of all scheduled events in Men’s and women’s category while the winners received their accolades after the conclusion of the championship.
