Haley Anderson seizes Women’s 5km gold medal – Swimming news
Hayley Anderson of Trojan Swim Club-CA seized gold medal of the Women’s 5km event at the USA Swimming Open Water Nationals on Monday, May 20, 2013.
Anderson devastated hopes of her opponents in the 5km discipline as she remained prominently ahead for the title. She showed no mercy to her challengers in the open water event and cemented her place on the podium for the title.
With her commendable pace, Anderson stayed in a two body lengths lead over her closest competitor and posted a time of 1 hour, 00 minutes and 36.51 seconds.
The champion was followed by Becca Mann of Clearwater Aquatic Club-FL, who stayed two body lengths slower and crossed the finishing end with the timing of 1 hour, 00 minutes and 38.04 seconds.
The second best finisher was followed by Emily Brunemann of Club Wolverine-MI, who stayed only an inch slower and settled on the finishing wall for bronze medal with an effort of 1 hour, 00 minutes and 38.38 seconds.
Christine Jennings of RallySport Aquatics Club-CO, who was almost two seconds apart and clocked a time of 1 hour, 00 minutes and 40.14 seconds, obtained fourth position of the event.
Tristin Baxter of Clovis Swim Club-CC, who concluded her race in a time of 1 hour, 00 minutes and 40.27 seconds, followed Jennings, the champion of 10km event.
Eva Fabian of Greenwood Swimming-NE, who remained only a second behind and clocked a time of 1 hour, 00 minutes and 41.12 seconds, obtained sixth fastest spot of the event.
Ashley Twichell of Mission Viejo Nadadores-CA, who stayed nearly 1.30 seconds slower and posted a time of 1 hour, 00 minutes and 42.41 seconds, chased Fabian.
Lindsey Clary of FAST Swim Team-CA, who stayed prominently slower from her former finisher and clocked an effort of 1 hour, 01 minutes and 51.86 seconds, secured eighth spot of the event.
Subsequently, Clary was chased by Brooke Lorentzen of Mission Viejo Nadadores-CA, who was almost seven seconds slower and crossed the finishing line with the timing of 1 hour, 01 minutes and 58.41 seconds.
Lorentzen was traced by Megan Rankin of Unattached-CA, who finished tenth in the race with an effort of 1 hour, 02 minutes and 09.83 seconds.
In addition, Anderson received a huge round of applause from the audience for her commendable pace while the position holders received medals and accolades at the prize distribution ceremony of the event.
