Haley Beranbaum and Ira Kaplan triumph Women’s 100m butterfly gold medal – 2011 Jimi Flowers Classic
Haley S Beranbaum and Ira A Kaplan won gold medals of the Women’s 100m butterfly in their respective Multi-Disability categories, on the final day of the 2011 Jimi Flowers Classic.
Beranbaum of Pro Swimming-PN won the title of the 100m butterfly event in the S5 discipline, by touching the finishing wall in an undisputed time of 2 minutes and 25.49 seconds. The 15-year-old Beranbaum was following the lead of Jaide O Childs, who was
comfortably away from him for the gold medal but faced disqualification in the final lap due to an inappropriate butterfly stroke. The 13-year-old Childs completed her first lap of the swim in 1 minute and 03.45 seconds, while she finished her final lap of
the swim in 1 minute and 05.73 seconds, before being disqualified from the respective meet.
In the S6 category, Kaplan of Pro Swimming-PN claimed the title of the butterfly event by touching the wall in a superb timing of 1 minute and 50.23 seconds.
Moments later, 8-Sm8-Sb7 T Long of USA Resident Team-CO acquired the title of the 100m butterfly in the S8 category. Long clocked a time of 1 minute and 13.34 seconds for the gold medal of the event. Her team-member, 8-8-8 M Everlove, was almost eleven seconds
slower than him and touched the wall for silver medal, by posting a time of 1 minute and 24.64 seconds.
Subsequently in the S9 category, USA Resident Team-CO’s 9-9-9 K Stone occupied the top spot on the podium for the gold medal, by touching the wall in a time of 1 minute and 17.84 seconds. She was followed by Lizzy A Smith, who touched the finishing wall
for silver medal by posting a competitive time of 1 minute and 25.89 seconds.
The session ended after the conclusion of the 100m butterfly in various Multi-Disability categories, while the arena enjoyed the extraordinary swims of disable swimmers, who competed with each other in their respective disciplines. Furthermore, the arena
applauded for winners at the medal ceremony of the championship.
