Haley Lips seizes Women’s 200m freestyle gold: Day three – YMCA National Championship
Haley Lips of Middle Tyger-SC seized gold medal of the Women’s 200m freestyle on day three of the 2012 YMCA National Long Course Championship at Georgia Institute of Technology Aquatics Center on Wednesday, July 25.
Lips remained considerably ahead of her opponents throughout the freestyle discipline and surfaced on the finishing blockade for gold medal.
With her persistent efforts and unmatchable pace, Lips enjoyed a two-body length lead over her subsequent rival as she hit the wall with the timing of 2 minutes and 02.51 seconds.
The gold medallist was traced by Madeline Smart of Wilton-CT, who was exactly two seconds apart and secured second position of the race by producing a time of 2 minutes and 04.51 seconds.
Smart was chased by Anna Wujciak of Gr. Flint-MI, who remained almost 0.70 seconds slower from her foregoing finisher and hit the wall with the timing of 2 minutes and 05.28 seconds for bronze medal.
Fourth position of the race was secured by Katrin Konopka of Middle Tyger-SC, who was only 0.02 seconds apart and hit the wall with the timing of 2 minutes and 05.30 seconds.
The 15-year-old Konopka was traced by Katy Luchansky of Wilton-CT, who was 0.09 seconds behind and finished fifth in the discipline by producing a time of 2 minutes and 05.39 seconds.
Subsequently, Luchansky was chased by Annie Gillig of Middle Tyger-SC, who stayed 0.38 seconds behind and secured sixth finest spot of the race by clocking a time of 2 minutes and 05.77 seconds.
Gillig was followed by Eliza McDonald of Cheshire-CT, who remained 0.20 seconds apart and ended her swim in seventh best place by submitting a time of 2 minutes and 05.97 seconds.
The 18-year-old McDonald was followed by Kendall Dawson of Orlando-FL, who was 0.38 seconds away from her preceding finisher and secured eighth position of the discipline by producing a time of 2 minutes and 06.35 seconds.
In addition, Lips was extremely satisfied with her accomplishment in the freestyle discipline and stated that she would increase her struggle in order to achieve the same at superior levels of international swimming.
