Haley Thompson conquers Girls 200yard freestyle gold – Michigan Girls State Championships

Haley Thompson of Holland High School conquered the title of Girls 200yard freestyle in Division 2 at the 2011 Michigan High School State Championships on Saturday, November 19.
The 12-year-old Thompson qualified as the fastest swimmer in the playoff and sustained her position to reach the podium for gold medal. She won the title in a wonderful time of 1 minute and 51.87 seconds and remained prominently ahead of her following swimmers.
With her invincible efforts, she remained almost two seconds slower from improving the Division 2 mark of 1 minute and 49.63 seconds, made by L. Johnson in 2007. 
She was trailed by Katie A Dudley of Okemos High School, who remained 0.46 seconds behind and tapped the wall with the second fastest timing of 1 minute 52.33 seconds for silver medal.
The 10-year-old Dudley remained 1.18 seconds ahead of her following competitor, Cassie Misiewicz of Holland High School, who appeared on the finishing end with the timing of 1 minute and 53.51 seconds for bronze medal.
The fourth spot of the race was secured by Harrison High School’s Maggie Hack, who remained nearly one second slower than her preceding swimmer and emerged on the finishing end with a timing of 1 minute and 54.56 seconds.
Hack was followed by Emma Weber of Portage Central High School, who completed her swim in a time of 1 minute and 54.90 seconds for fifth position.
Subsequently, the crowd witnessed Courtney Bartholomew of Holland High School, who occupied the title of Girls 200yard Individual Medley (IM).
The 12-year-old Bartholomew ended her swim in a phenomenal time of 2 minutes and 00.06 seconds for gold medal. She remained significantly ahead of Birmingham Groves High School's Annie Lazor, who submitted a time of 2 minutes and 03.08 seconds.
The 12-year-old Lazor outshined Gabrielle M DeLoof of GP South High School, who surfaced as the third position holder by submitting an effort of 2 minutes and 06.53 seconds.
The crowd was dazzled with the exhausting efforts of all teenage swimmers in their respective events. In addition, these winners were invited on the podium for awards and accolades after the conclusion of Championship.
