Question:

Half Moon Cay with kids?

I'm going on a cruise on May (Carnival Triumph) with my kids (1 and 4). I can't wait to visit Half Moon Cay as we all love beaches and they say that it is a very nice place. I guess that a ferry takes people on shore. I'm wondering what it is what I should take with me (specially for the kids) when going to that beach. Water bottles, food, milk, some other special things? Do they sell food at the beach? Are there any shadows? Any ideas or comments will be really appreciated. Thanks

  1. Half Moon Cay is beautiful!  The ship will anchor and then you'll take a tender into shore.  This is the cruise line's private island [actually it's the tip of an island].  They have food and water etc there at a central location.  You may want to take a bottle of water and, of course, baby food.

They have a children's play area and the water is very calm and shallow.  If you want to stay for more than a couple of hours, I'd recommend renting a "clamshell" - it's a little tent-like contraption that covers part of the two beach loungers you have, so you have some shade and a place to leave your towels, book, baby toys, etc.  It only costs a few bucks and is worth it.  [Look on Carnival's website under "excursions" - if possible, you'll want to reserve this ahead of time, especially if there will be more than one ship there.]   It does get rather warm so put something under the edge of the shell [at the "head" of the lounger] so some air can move through.

You can get more info about HMC at CruiseCritic.com.  Click on "Boards", then "Ports of Call", then "Private Islands".

    Have a great cruise.
