Half Pads?

Are half pads and therapeutic pads the same things when it comes to riding? I want to get a baby pad and a half pad to ride with to keep my horse cooler and carry a little less weight. Thanks for your input!

  1. Half pads are for english and they really do not get your horse cooler

They only cover the saddle area I used them on my jumpers with high withers and because I could get my legs closer to the horse then a full one

some will both for extra padding on a high boned horses

and english pads come in so many different styles now that just a light one should do you good

They are so light anyway You could use a dressage pad altho they are full some are very light

  2. You can get both with a gel pad

some come in smaller sizes, I have used them .and also the light enlish pads

Gel make be the way you go

I don't have horse's with sore backs , so I don't use  them for that reason , just to make it nicer for the horse

    Try the gel pads

    they stay col etc

  3. Therapeutic pads are half pads, but not all half pads are therapeutic pads.  Some pads are specifically designed to take away pressure points on the horse's back.  Some half pads are just smaller saddle pads.

    For example,

this one is just a saddle pad: http://cgi.ebay.com/Used-Fleeceworks-Hal...

this one is a therapeutic pad that's designed to relieve pressure points on the horse's back: http://cgi.ebay.com/Beval-Therapeutic-Wo...

The Beval pad is very heavy and very thick.  It's good for the horse's back, especially if you, like me, have a horse with a sore back.  Those pads are a little more expensive than your every day half pad.
