Manchester City went into this clash against Blackpool with just one aim in mind - win. A victory would result in the side catapulting itself to the second spot, and would remain only two points behind leaders Chelsea.
City manager Roberto Mancini installed an all action line-up, having two strikers up front in the form of Adebayor and Tevez. Both the players had the ability to score goals at will. Within no time, both players combined well with each other in the opening minutes of the game.
The opening proceedings were dominated by the home side as Manchester City failed to gain possession. Varney had a good chance to find the early lead but couldn’t control the volley which saw the ball sailing over Hart. However, City finally sought a comeback when Adam Johnson took an audacious shot on goal but was denied by the framework. Carlos Tevez remained the side’s most valuable player who managed to create an opportunity of his own. It took a lot of heroics from the goal keeper to keep the Argentine’s shot from going into his goal.
Nothing could be said at half time as the score-line remains at par. Some have said that Blackpool didn’t deserve to be in the premier league owing to lack of funds but at the moment, the money isn’t doing that good a job for Manchester City as well. Blackpool have made some exciting opportunities at the front and have ably defended at the back.
