In a Carling cup Third round tie, Everton travelled to Brentford in an exciting encounter between two top English sides.
In the first minute of the match a free kick was awarded for an unfair challenge on Ayegbeni Yakubu by Karleigh Osborne. Phil Jagielka restarted play with the free kick. This would be the first time in nearly 40 years that the
sides clash with each other, having played against each other in the lower tiers of English football. A goal was scored by Seamus Coleman on the 5th minute from inside the six-yard box to the top left corner of the goal. Assist on the goal came
from Diniyar Bilyaletdinov. Everton took the early lead, thanks to beautifully constructed move from Everton, who have had a troubled season in the premier league thus far.
On the 14th minute, a corner from the left by-line was taken by Magaye Gueye, A header from close in was followed in by Phil Jagielka which missed to the right of the target. Five minutes later, another free kick was
awarded for an unfair challenge on Michael Spillane by Magaye Gueye. The free kick was taken by Richard Lee. Moments later, Everton were awarded another corner. An outswinging corner was taken by Diniyar Bilyaletdinov from the right by-line,  but was saved
by goalkeeper Richard Lee. Everton seemed to have dominated the entire early proceeding of the match and the young lot of the Blues managed to maintain most of the possession. On the 37th minute, Ayegbeni Yakubu took a shot. A glorious save was
made by Richard Lee. The keeper palmed out the ball to award a corner. An outswinging corner was taken from the left by-line by Magaye Gueye, but a free kick awarded for an unfair challenge on Kevin O'Connor by Marouane Fellaini.
So far in the Premier League, Everton have managed only two draws from their first five fixtures and currently sit dangerously in the relegation zone. Other Premier League clubs have really upped their game thus far this season.
The home side managed to find the equalizing goal, thanks to Gary Alexander. Gary Alexander found the back of the net with a headed goal from close range. The assist for the goal came from Myles Weston.
At half time, the score line was equal, with nothing to choose in between the two sides. Everton manager David Moyes would want to change something around in the side in order to once again take the lead and then hang on to it.
