Manchester City hosted Newcastle United in this Super Sunday encounter. The hosts found the early goal thanks to a penalty kick. Carlos Tevez, the club captain, was brought down in the penalty box by Mark Williamson. The Argentinean attacker expertly placed
the ball on the left which easily beat Tim Krul to score the first goal of the match. The home side scored in just 18 minutes of the first half.
After going down, the visitors started to dominate Manchester City by keeping all the possession. Just after six minutes of the first goal, Newcastle United scored a stunner. Jonas Gutierrez scored an equalizer with a superb shot taken from inside the box.
The newly promoted team of the Barclays Premier League was able to make a comeback just before the half time mark. With the time, the super Sunday encounter became more intense as five yellow cards were shown in this first half. Two Newcastle United players
were shown a yellow while three City players earned yellow cards which also includes skipper Carlos Tevez.
Moreover, five minutes of added time was given at Eastlands. At the half time mark, there was nothing to choose between the two sides and Roberto Mancini would be expected to change things in order to stay firm in the title race.
