In what was one of the most interesting matches of the night, French giants Marseille took on Spartak Moscow in what was their first match of the UEFA Champions league this season. Both the teams made plenty of opportunities but the home side was the better
as Marseille dominated in the midfield
French International Andre Ayew went close on scoring the opening goal for the home side on numerous occasions but it was the finishing shot that was lacking. The visitor’s goal keeper had a tough time blocking various shots which were thrown towards him.
Former Manchester United full back Gabriel Heinze managed to toy with the visiting defence but failed to provide the final ball to the advancing attackers. Marseille, who are the French Ligue 1 Champions, was impressive in the opening exchanges. The team under
manager for Chelsea player Didier Deschamps managed to reach new heights last season, when they lifted the French crown. Their domestic win has their side to an automatic qualification into the Champions league this season.
On the 5th minute, Marseille midfielder Hilton took an impressive free kick, but was taken to safety by the goal keeper. Spartak Moscow managed to catch the home side on the counter attack and Parshivlyuk shot was blocked by the goal keeper.
However, at half time, there was nothing to choose between the two sides and the home side would be looking to find the break through goal in order to take the much required home side victory.
